Quote of the Day: Mark Batterson
“Sometimes taking a calculated risk means giving up something that is good so that you can experience something that is great”
Mark Batterson
Big changes are afoot here at Chiot’s Run, big changes. In a month Mr Chiots is changing careers. That means he’ll be gone every day, working at a local company. They originally hired him to develop their website and then decided to hire him to manage the company. I’ll share more in the future when things finally change.
It should be interesting to see how things change around here. In one way it will be nice to have all of his work hours confined to certain times. It will also be nice that he will only be working 40 hours a week instead of 60-70. It sure will be a switch from his self-employement. Guess I’ll have to learn how to drive the tractor!
Any big changes in your life?

Best wishes to you both on the transition.

Wow! That’s quite a change. Congratulations!
I work full time from home and run the homestead while Steve works 60 hours in the corporate world. It’s convenient and inconvenient at the same time. If I can’t fix something I have to wait to use it until he gets home and has time. Sometimes that means waiting four or five days. It all works out but not always on my time schedule.

I wish you well with the big change.
Last year my wife had to learn how to handle a lot of our farm work while I was deployed for 9 months with the Air Force. She has a full time job out of the house also so she was pretty busy. Now she is deployed with the AF. The farm and rental is my full time job though and we have friends who help when needed.
Good luck on the changes in your life.

It will be helpful to hear how you guys get things done with him gone during the day. I imagine most people probably have at least one person working outside of the house so please do share how you adapt to this change!

Susy, I guess that’s congratulations. After being retired for five years, I wouldn’t want to go back to the work force let alone try to manage it. I hope and pray that things really work out for you both. It will indeed be a change. I have no doubt that that Brian will be a great success at the new job. Brian seems to be a free range kind of guy so it will be interesting to see how well he likes being in the pen. Knowing you guys you have talked and considered all the changes that will take place; mulled over all the pros and cons; and left no stone un turned as options go.
Good luck to you both. I’m sure we will be hearing stories in the future about the big change. Have a great big change day.

Congratulations! I hope it is a fun little adventure and change of pace for y’all!
My biggest life change will be the little baby that arrives in September and figuring out how to add him into our life! ;)

Congratulations, Mr. Chiots, on the new job! I have a big change myself. I’m moving next month. Downsizing and giving up my large yard that I can’t manage. But I’ll have a nice little garden area that I’ll be able to use and am looking forward to less stress.

Congratulations to Brian! Our big life change will be the opposite. Hubs is trying to retire but so far hasn’t worked out. He was, however, off for 6 months from shoulder surgery last year and it was great to have him every day. Then he took off for a few weeks earlier this year. Again, working together was wonderful. If nothing else, I myself am looking forward to this life changer!

Yes! My husband is quitting work as a teacher to go to nursing school! We’re very excited. Not only will we be more mobile and have opportunities for career advancement, he’ll also be working 40 hours during school (classes + studying + clinical rotations) instead of 60+ as a teacher :-) hooray!

Congratulations on the new job. Landing a job, any job, in Waldo Cty. isn’t an easy feat so getting a management position is really great. I know you’ll do well. Hopefully, you’ve planned the farm in such a way that it requires the least amount of work to flourish.

Congrats Brian on the new job! Susy you’ll drive that tractor like there’s no tomorrow! Missing my sunday late night Cultivate Simple.

My Spanish job is being eliminated, so I am on the job hunt. I am looking for another teaching job, but also keeping horticultural options open. I might also look into opportunities for interpreting and translating.
And then there is a farm in the family in Ferndale, Washington in which we could possibly rent for a bit. This came out of nowhere, and I am excited for the possible adventure. We could finally have enough room to grow all of our food!
