Friday Favorite: Flags
I love flags, love.love.love them! When I was a kid I was always the one hanging our flag outside for holidays. Things are no different now, I have almost always had a flag or two in the garden. Last year I only had one small one in a flowerbed, this year I decided to go all out!
I’ve been eyeing these triple flag holders for quite a while, they’ve been on my Amazon wish list for many years. Bunting is also something I’ve been wanting to get but just haven’t gotten around to it.
Last week I stopped at a local store and they had both items! I snapped up a few and came home ready to decorate the house and barn.
Now it’s looking perfectly patriotic around here and that makes me happy. I love the flags so much I’m thinking of getting another triple flag holder for the chicken coop, no doubt they’ll love a little summer decor as well. Colombian flags will also be purchased to hang out on the appropriate holidays, nothing makes me happier than celebrating both of my citizenship countries! I don’t think I’ll be able to find those locally.
Do you hang a flag in your garden?
I don’t have flags in my garden but do have an American flag on my sign post on the road.

Susy, actually yes I do have an American flag flying when I’m in the garden at Terra Nova Gardens. I would really like to find a nice big garden flag of some kind but all the stores only have the smaller ones. I started flying the flag when I first bought Terra Nova Gardens to let the neighbors know that I was there and anyone who helped while I was not there could fly the flag and the neighbors knew it was OK for them to be there. This year the neighbors are more familiar with who can come and go and I haven’t flown the flag as much. I’ll have to get back to searching for a nice garden flag.
The last storm that came through had in excess of 100 MPH wind gusts. I think Terra Nova Gardens was one of those areas. Even though it was still extremely wet, I made a trip there just to see if any damage happened as there was flash flooding in the area as well. I only had tomatoes and corn planted there. The tomatoes were just bare sticks poking up in the air. The wind had blown every single leaf off the stems. Even the perimeter weeds were leaf less. It’s a good thing I still have some seed starts saved back. This would be round number three for the tomatoes. First frozen and now wind blown. We are down to 130 days of growing season so if something happens to this planting the gardens are done for this year.

Susy, if you guys ever get to stop by here for a visit, I think you’ll enjoy my office decor: LOTS of flags from all over the world! Places I’ve been, places family members have been, and places around the globe that friends or family call home. I do also have a Colombian flag on my desk. (Several South American flags around here…)
For some reason, since I was a boy, I loved flags, too, and continue to enjoy displaying them and seeing them displayed. We have a very large US flag that we hang on summer US holidays, too. It takes up nearly the whole front of our house! :)

We’ve had swags hanging on our front porch for years. It all started when our son, entered the Navy after high school and been doing it ever since. Love to display them, and look great on the porch.

Love the color of your barn…it really shows off your red, white and blue! I like to put small ones in my planters around the yard and garden especially the ones I’ve planted with red, white and blue flowers! :)
