I’ve been thinking about getting a companion cat for the Sweets, our little feral garage cat.  She loves hanging out with Big D and Samson when they’re out so I know she loves having companions.

A friend of mind had a cat with kittens and I asked if they had a home, they did, but one of his friends had a cat that she was looking to rehome. Zippy was living with an 80 year old woman and was always trying to get outside. In fact, she knocked the lady over several times darting out the door in front of her. As a result, she needed a new home where she could live outside like she wanted to. Her owner’s daughter contacted me to see if I’d be interested.

We have loads of space and could use another outdoor cat so I told her to bring her up. Zippy, as she was called by her previous owner, made the journey up from Connecticut yesterday and is now in a kennel in our kitchen. It will take a few weeks to get all the cats acquainted with each other, but I have no doubt they’ll all become fast friends within a few month. I can’t wait for Sweets to have a buddy to pal around the garden with, she really is a social cat. We’ll probably come up with a new name for Zippy, not quite sure what yet.

Any great suggestions for a new name for this sweetie?

It is so nice when animals get along!
Sweets will love having a pal in the winter to sleep with.
Zmippy is one lucky car, she looks very young.

She’s lovely!!!! I’m so excited that you’ve helped rehome a pet!

I was thinking Ruby or Lucky (since she IS lucky to end up with you :) for names that might sound similar to Zippy, (to help her out), otherwise, I think she looks like a Midge :)

    Welcome Zippy!!!

Susy, the task of naming the animals belonged to my wife and kids. They would spend days coming up with just the right name. Only one pet came to us already named. Bootsie was a male Cocker spaniel mix that came a courting our ditsy Poodle. He would run away from home and sleep on the front steps to our house all day just to catch a glimpse of Gidget when she came out for her daily bathroom breaks. It got so bad for the owners to keep him home that they finally just brought his food and food bowl over and said, “Apparently this is his home. We are gone working all day and aren’t home much at night so why don’t you just keep him.” True love. They grew old together and both died within a year of each other. Bootsie first due to a back injury when he was young lost control of his back legs and had to be euthanized and Gidget later I really think of a broken heart. Animals are indeed social. Some more than others but they do need best pals in life just like humans.

Have a great integrating Zippy to the homestead day.

After you’ve had Zippy a few days a name will present itself once you see her interact and her habits. Meanwhile, I like the name Rocket.

She is beautiful and has amazing bright eyes and is one very lucky cat to have found a new home on the Chiots farm. The elderly lady who gave her up can rest well knowing her, Zippy, will live a happy and healthy life with all of you, no matter what you decide to name her.

Since she is intended as a friend for your other cat, and you already have a bit of a French theme how about ‘Ami’ – friend in French? I have an older outdoor cat we named Pepe le pew, but over the years he has simply become Pepper. And my naming efforts have deteriorated considerably, with our last two additions being called ‘the hound dog’, and ‘baby kitty’.

Goodness, that looks just like our cat, “muesli”, thus named because when she was a kitten she used to “mew” a lot. One day our daughter called her muesli and it stuck. I also thought it matched her coloration, looking somewhat like a bowl of muesli.

I must confess, I like “zippy” and I think it suits her. Here’s one out of the box though, what about Amigo, because she will be friend to Sweets. Or Chiquita which is Spanish for little girl.

Well, if she’s gonna be a companion to Sampson, then “Delilah” seems fitting.
