Friday Favorite: Eyelet Fabric

August 29th, 2014

Eyelet fabric has been one of my favorite things ever since I was a little girl. I don’t know what it is about it, perhaps the texture, perhaps the intricacy, maybe it’s the subtleness of the pattern. Whatever it is, I find myself gravitating towards eyelet whenever I see it on a piece of clothing. Five or six years ago I purchased this fantastic eyelet skirt. It has a few different eyelet patterns, from the simple to the intricate.

The skirt is white, which is rather unfortunate, but thanks to oxygen bleach it’s as white now as it was the first day I purchased it. This skirt is perfect in summer, it’s light, it’s cool, I can dress it up, I can dress it down. I find myself wearing it with tank tops and flip flops all summer long. I wish I had purchased this skirt in the other colors that it was available in, black and brown.  But alas, I only have the white.  That’s OK I suppose, it’s more special since I only have one.

Unfortunately eyelet clothing is difficult to find, which makes it all the more special. Perhaps someday I’ll find a beautiful mix of eyelets and make myself another skirt just like this. It wouldn’t be difficult, I have the sewing skills to do it, I just need to find the fabric.

What’s your favorite type of fabric?

I also have always had a thing for eyelet! That skirt is gorgeous! Favorite fabric, though, that’s tough. I’m a quilter and love sewing, so I am always finding fabric that I love!

I love flannel. Maybe it’s because it reminds me of my grandfather? There is nothing more cozy than curling up in a big flannel shirt and a good book on a chilly night.

Susy, no surprises here when I say my favorite fabric is denim. When I’m in full fall dress, it’s denim top to bottom. Denim shirt, denim jeans, and even denim jacket. It has to be the best material invented by man. I’m not too sure I’d look good in denim eyelet pants or even a shirt. I’m more practical in clothes and not so much of a fancy dresser. I do have a couple suits but I’m not sure I even fit in them as I haven’t found the need to use them in over a decade. If the clothes make the man, then I guess I’m destined to just be an ordinary guy that likes to dig in the dirt. :-)

Have a great eyelet skirt day.

I love eyelet too but my favorite fabric is something my Aunt Clara called kettlecloth. I had dresses, culottes, blouses, etc.. made out of that fabric. It was a cotton fabric with just a teeny skiff of white in it. Hard to explain. I also loved anything made out of dotted swiss!

    Blessings

I love fresh Italian parsley and like to have it around all year if possible.  That means I grow it...
