Not Ready

October 7th, 2014

Usually I’m quite ready for the cold weather to come, this year I’m not quite there. While I am looking forward to fires, soups, and lots of needlework, I’m not quite ready for the warmth of the sun to leave. I’m not quite ready to trade my flip flops for wool socks. I’m not quite ready to have frosty fingers when I do my chores. I’m not quite ready for the short days.

Lucky for me the afternoons are still sunny and fairly warm, warm enough to sit in a chair by the potager at noon without a sweater on. I’m soaking up the last little bit of vitamin D that I can, hopefully it lasts me through the winter.

Are you ready for the next season?

I love how warm the direct sun feels this time of year whereas the shade makes me shiver. I am not fond of winter, but I do appreciate how it makes us focus on different tasks.

No, I’m not ready at all! I normally love fall, but since last winter felt like it lasted forever, it feels more like a reminder of what is to come.

I do tend to order seeds in January and I always love ordering seeds. It is a highlight of winter.

Susy, we are fast heading into the Winter season here in Nebraska. Major leaf drop is upon us here. The first frost day is just a few days away and we have already had a near frost last week. I made my first pot of bean soup just last week so let the seasonal cooking begin. I’m scurrying about trying to get a couple projects finished up before the snows flies. This year has not been a super productive year by any standard. I’m already looking forward to planning next year and starting seeds in February. I’m so ready to move on from this year.

Have a great sun soaking day.

I’m ready for fall, but it’s supposed to be 94 today… Oh well.

Bring it on. I’ve earned it. Love this side of the calendar.

Honestly, no, im not ready for long stretches of clouds and rain and possible snow. This summer was one of the best the PNW has seen in a long time and we were spoiled for sure! However, like you, I do enjoy fires and soups and cozy fall/winter days, but im just not quite ready.
