Still Harvesting

October 25th, 2014

One night ear lier this week they were calling for it to get down into the 20’s overnight. I knew my falls peas wouldn’t do very well with temps that low, so I decided to harvest as many as I could. When I got up the next morning it was in the mid forties, no cold snap as expected.

The warm flush of weather from last week aided in the plumping of the tiny peas in their pods. I had a much better harvest than anticipated, which I was quite happy about. If the weather continues to stay as mild as it has been, I should get at least another harvest and maybe two. Three cheers for fall crops!

What’s in your harvest basket?

I’ve only got a few things here at the house that still need harvesting.. Figs are ripening every day, I’ve still got a few tomatoes on the vine in a large tub and I’ve got Brussels Sprouts in a huge tub as well..

I just harvested 4 giant heads of celery from my main garden a few days ago along with a few tomatillos.. Thats it from my garden world.

I’m still harvesting peppers, eggplant, and okra, and a few green beans. Your peas look fantastic – I want to try growing peas, my husband loves them.

We planted a small patch of fall peas, what a treat! We planted sweet potaotes for the first time this year, today is harvest day. Chard, kale, the last few yellow summer squash, and spinach. Peppers in the green house. Enjoy your peas.
