Friday Favorite: Winter Sunrises
Winter means leafless trees and that means the sunrises can be seen far and wide. I’m not sure why, but it also seems that the sunrises and sunsets are much more beautiful this time of year. A few weeks ago we woke up to a very thick blanket of snow, thankfully the sunrise was also stunning that morning.
In Ohio we saw the sunset more than the sunrise. Here in Maine our house is on a hill so we’re lucky to enjoy both of them.
This is one of the wonderful things I savor in the winter. There’s nothing quite like watching the sun come up over the horizon with a warm cup of coffee in your hand.
Do you get to see sunrises/sunsets from your house?

Sunrise and set are my favorite times of day. The sun rises through the bedroom wind and sets in the living room so even if I’m not up and outdoors, I can watch them. This time of year I’m usually watch the sunrise while drinking coffee. 15*F this morning. I watched from indoors! Enjoy the weekend!

I don’t see the sunrise much, because it comes up behind the house and the windows facing that way are the old servants quarters we don’t use. But the sun sets over the lake, directly out our living room windows. We can’t see it so well in the summer because of all the trees (also, we go to bed before the sun sets in the summer because we are old before our time and tired), but in the winter, with the bare trees, we have an unobstructed view of the sun setting over the water. It’s pretty spectacular.

My little farmhouse sits on a hill facing northwest, so we get a beautiful view of the sky tinged with both sunrises and sunsets. There is a tall hill across the Sandy River valley directly across from our back porch that makes for a pretty picture all year round, but is especially nice in the Fall and Winter. And if we walk to the edge of our yard, we can see Mt.Blue with the sun setting behind it. I love living in the Mountains!

It’s a little wooded for me to completely see the sun rise, but we get a decent view over our pond and through the trees. If my windows are open upstairs it is a great way to start the day.

Love winter sunrises – the sun comes up through the trees, so the silhouettes on a blazing pink and orange background are pretty cool. We have a decent sunset view year-round, but when all the leaves are off, it becomes that much better!

Susy, nope don’t get to see them. My neighborhood is filled with fully mature 49 year old trees and since the front of my house faces south the houses on East and West block the view even more. I do get out to Terra Nova Gardens on occasion before the sun rises. The front of Terra Nova Gardens faces east so the sun rises are very beautiful. I didn’t get out there at all to see the sun rise this year. Maybe next year.
Have a great sunrise/sunset watching day.
