Goals

January 6th, 2015

I don’t make resolutions this time of year, but I do try to think about what I want to accomplish in the coming year. Usually I come up with one big project that will take a large amount of time and spend time planning out the steps for that project.

This year my goal is to clean and organize our ginormous garage. It will be a task that’s for sure. When we moved to Maine we hit the ground running and unfortunately the garage has been a bit of a mess since we unloaded the moving truck.

My goal for the year, mostly this summer when it’s warm, is to get all the junk in the garage organized. No doubt I’ll take a trip to the dump and a load or a few to Goodwill. Mostly, things just need organized into boxes and on shelves. Hooks need to go in he wall for hanging bits and bobs and everything needs a good cleaning. It’s one of those projects that I haven’t made the time for the past two year, but 2015 will be the year!

Did you set any goals for the coming year?

Yes, in fact I do this every year, too! Not very good about keeping resolutions and I don’t know anyone who is. Our big project for last year was replacing nasty industrial carpet tile with some nice italian stone tile on the bottom level of our tri-level. It was a huge job but it was well worth it. This year, it’s to replace the last room of carpet on the middle floor with laminate wood-look flooring. Oh, I HATE carpet! We are too messy to have carpet anywhere near a door leading to the outside. That will leave carpet on just the top floor bedrooms and I would like to replace them with laminate flooring also but I don’t know if Hubs and I have the stamina to tackle that.

Susy, my plan for this year is to finish the six foot wooden fence around Terra Nova Gardens but then that was my plan for last year and only four panels were completed because of health issues and weather conditions. Because of such unknown factors I gave up on goals long ago and now only plan things. Plans can be cancelled or changed when needed and disappoint is not quite as great when a plan goes awry as when a goal is not reached. Some may think it’s a cop out but there’s just too many unknown factors in my life to put a goal attached to a time line on my schedule. Some of my plans may take several years to complete but that’s ok. Rome wasn’t built in a day so the saying goes.

Have a great goal planning day.

I recently posted my goals for 2015 but i’d say the biggest goal is the creating of a permaculture forest garden in my orchard area. I have been preparing and studying to do this for five years now.

Wow, your garage looks a lot bigger than my whole house… maybe twice as big. The nice and not-so-nice thing about living in a small space is you can’t really put off decluttering for long.

We have a shed that we use for storage and it was damaged by a falling tree. It has a tarp but it’s only a matter of time before the whole thing has to go. I don’t know if we’ll build a new shed or try something different.

This year is going to keep us busy.
The list of jobs that need to be be done is being written at the moment…..rather huge but some stuff will involve builders (old barns need re-roofing)
The inside of the house needs a some serious TLC, I have been here 30yrs and things are in need of a major facelift.
The veg garden is moving to a new bigger area, hopefully with room for a polytunnel…
Just going to plod through the list as time, English weather and finances allow.
