Some Like it HOT
My dad was recently in Thailand for two weeks and when he asked me if I’d like him to bring something back for me I immediately said “RED CURRY”! I love.love.love red curry, it’s one of my favorite flavors.
He got me tons of it in a few different flavors. As you can imagine, I’m ridiculously excited to try it. In fact I may to drive to the lobster pound to get a few pounds of clams just to try it. Clams with red curry is one of my favorites! Here is a great recipe if you’re interested. I’m interested to see how this curry is different from the curry I’m used to buying here in the US, no doubt it’s going to be AMAZING, and hopefully a lot hotter than the curry I get here.
What’s your favorite ethnic spice?

Susy, I’ve mentioned before that I am a little spice cooking challenged. As far as ethnic spices go I suppose it would be something south of the border. As long as it doesn’t get to hot on the Scoville scale, I’m good. I do like a little bite in the Chili and Tamales but if it gets so hot that I can’t taste the food, then what’s the point. I have had food with curry in it but really can’t remember when. It’s been a long time ago and only a couple times. It’s not among my big three spices in the cupboard.
Have a happy as a curry spiced clam day.

Oh boy! That looks like my stash of chili powder and Mexican mocha powder I have family send from AZ. :).
A favorite ethnic spice? Yikes! I don’t know if I could pick. I love Herbes de Provence (with tarragon added), but also Five Spice and Garam Masala.
Over the holidays, we found this great new store here that only sells herbs and spice freshly ground each week. The flagship store is in Colorado, and they are slowly making their way west. They had wonderfully fragrant American spice mixes for bbq. I can’t wait to pick up our 1/2 cow next month, so I’ll have a steak to try out the truffle salt and Oregon Juniper spice rub on.
