Friday Favorite: Longer Days
The end of February always marks the time when I distinctly notice that the days are getting longer. Sure I start to notice it a little in early February, but in late February it hits me that I’m cooking dinner and there’s still light outside. This is one of my favorite things!
I notice the sun is high enough in the sky to cast a glare on the living room floor and to give me lens flare when I’m taking photos.
This is the thing that finally gives me hope that spring will come. It makes me excited to start seeds and to plan out my garden for the summer. This weekend I plan on moving my big grow light to a warmer area of the house starting many flats of seeds. Hopefully I’ll have onion, celery, spinach, and lettuce along with a few herbs.
Do you notice the days getting longer this time of year?

Amen. My kids can stay out to play almost until their father gets home from work. Unless, of course, it’s ten degrees with wind and three-foot drifts of snow. Kind of harsh for a two-year-old.

Susy, yes, the days are getting longer. I am always up no later than 7am and usually by 6:30am. Usually by the first part of January the light slowly gets brighter and brighter at that time of the morning. By the end of February the light is prominent no extra lighting is needed for my morning quiet time at the computer. Each day continues to get brighter until that dreaded daylight time sets it back an hour. Don’t get me wrong, I do love the extra time in the evening to work outside but morning is my favorite time. Even after the time change by summer the light starts coming here in Nebraska by 5:30am. Nice. I too am looking forward to Spring and the outside beginning of gardening. Much to do and so little time to get it done. :-)
Have a great morning light day.

We’ve definitely noticed it here. I’m hoping that this summer after I get the baby to bed I can spend an hour in the garden when it is cooler. It will definitely help to be able to do that!

Yes, we have noticed longer days…the chickens are taking much longer to go to bed. I love longer days, more light helps make for a happier and more energetic me.
