Soggy, Soggy, Soggy

April 22nd, 2015

Spring always comes with rain and lots of it. The ground is already saturated from the snowmelt, so 2 inches of rain on top that has all the ditches and creeks raging.

Thankfully I got a lot of seeds in the ground last week so they will be well watered in. No doubt they will all start sprouting after the good soaking they received over the last two days. It’s supposed to rain pretty much every day this week as well. I guess April showers bring May flowers, or so they say.

Do you have certain seasons with more rain?

Susy, Spring is usually the time when we get the most rain. April is the month when the average rainfall is the highest. This year has not disappointed us with rainfall. March was very dry but April is making up for it. The weather has settled down in a normal seasonal pattern with average temperatures and rainfall. We have the “April showers bring May flowers” saying here in Nebraska as well. There’s a lot of blooming that happens here in Nebraska in April as well. The Lilac bushes and Redbud trees are in full bloom now. The Tulips and Daffodils are done so the next thing will be Iris and Peonies which bloom here some time in May. Spring is moving right along as it should.

I planted the second round of potatoes yesterday and will be putting out cabbage plants this week. I see that the lettuce and radishes are coming up so maybe in another three or four weeks a fresh salad will be on the table.

Have a great April shower day.
