O Christmas Tree

December 7th, 2015

We always get our little Christmas tree the Sunday after we get back from our trip to Ohio for Thanksgiving. We no longer need to head to a Christmas tree farm, we just cut a tree from one of the many on our property.

This year it’s the best one yet, tall enough to reach the ceiling, skinny enough to not take up the entire living room, and full enough to look nice.

I added the usual decorations of a few cut glass bulbs, glass teardrops, and two strands of C7 lights on a dimmer switch similar to this one, it’s perfection in my book!

Do you have a tree in your home? Is it a real tree?

I do have a real Balsam Fir all set up. I love to have it on in the early morning, late afternoon and evening during these dark days.

I put up a tree this year for the first time since my childhood (I’m 34). I used to light the family tree with a former boyfriend for many years, so I haven’t been entirely treeless. But, I had never really gotten around to getting one of my own and didn’t really miss it. This year, I just had a spontaneous stop at my local hardware store, loaded one up, and took it home. Very happy I did. I don’t need it, wasn’t missing it, but it sure does add a healthy does of cheer to the place!

Susy, no real tree here. The Charlie Brown tree will get a make over this year. The same ornaments after 10 years are due for a change. :-) The plastic bag comes off the tree and is placed on the card table with a Christmas table cloth covering. Now the new decorating can begin. Yeah, I know. Such a guy thing. I think it’s very cool that you can grow your own Christmas trees right from your property. The trees at Terra Nova Gardens are not Christmas trees. They are Maple, Mulberry, and Cottonwood. None would look good in the living room. During my early growing up years Dad brought home the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve and we spent the evening decorating the tree. Now that I look back is was probably because the trees left on Christmas Eve were practically given away for any last minute profit. It was probably the only way my parents could afford one. This area in Nebraska is not really noted for Evergreen trees so finding on in a wooded area was out of the question. Anyway it was a great tradition that made many good memories for me. Only 18 days and counting until Santa arrives.

Have a great decorated tree enjoying day.
