The January Cure

January 5th, 2016

A friend recently challenged me to take part in the January Cure from Apartment Therapy. While I tend to stay on top of cleaning and have pretty much found my groove when it comes to cleaning/decluttering, I figured I’d join with her to encourage her and to get to a few things I’ve been putting off (i.e. reorganize the office after Mr Chiots went to work away from the home).
Brians Desk
This past weekend the big job was to sweep & mop all the floors in the house, something I’m a bit crazy about and do every week, so I was able to take the weekend off. Yesterday, the task was to go through the house and list all the jobs that need done, little and big things. Now this is something I’ve been meaning to do for quite a while. Cleaning off this desk so I can use it was first on the list in the office, along with things like: adjust curtain that covers closet, instal new doorknob, hang cabinet for essential oils…

If you’ve been needing a bit of encouragement to spring clean your house and get a few things checked off your to-do lists, join this challenge.

How are you about house cleaning/organization? Are you laid back or a bit too overzealous?

I’m definitely not over zealous, but laid back doesn’t describe me. I’m disorganized, but in angst over my disorganization.
Yes, I find January is a great time to declutter.

I’m working on the pantry/laundry room a little at a time. I’ll tackle at least one rack of shelves before the end of the week. Clutter gets on my nerves so I’m pretty good about keeping on top of it but that room, behind the closed door, out of sight…and out of control.

Susy, decluttering seems to be a continuous thing for me. Living with two hoarders (daughter and grandson), I am cleaning up every day from old school papers, useless mail, Lego(s) on the floor, and other day to day clutter. During Christmas break I just let things go so now there’s several days of clutter to clean up. Winter time is what I call the Winter cleaning time. There’s no time in the Spring for Spring cleaning. Gardening takes presence then. So one month of serious cleaning before the seed starting begins. Then more cleaning behind gardening until April when the major gardening begins.

So have a great day with decluttering and cleaning.

Now that my youngest Charlie turned three I can finally breathe. Two year old boys take a lot! I use to set a timer for two minutes- the amount of time I could attend to tasks- and often that still got him in trouble. Now he is three and 4 year old sister is a great tattletale, so I can try to get things done around the house, and I’m going to try to grow something this year in hopes that he wont go behind me unearthing all my strawberry plants!
Love your can ring storage- mine always accumulate and take up so much time and space.
