Hey Guys
Yesterday I looked out the back window and saw four wild turkey toms huffing and gobbling away trying to impress our turkey hens. They were out there for a couple of hours, the ladies ignored them all the entire time.
This always makes me laugh, turkeys are funny birds, such a joy to have around! It’s been great watching our flock interact and learning about their nature. The ladies just started laying eggs last week, I’m trying to decide if I want to let them hatch any out this spring.
What wildlife are you seeing in your garden?

We are seeing baby bunnies! They are so beyond cute it’s ridiculous. Guess where they live? In a raised bed planter. Smart bunnies! It’s warmer in here and they are safer from my 2 very bad Dachshunds who want to harass them!

We have mice : / They are rampant. We are hoping for a black snake to reside under our shed but so far no one has caught one for us. We don’t have a cat and can’t because of a busy road :(
I would much rather have some fun turkeys to watch!

Susy, I saw a flock of wild turkeys last week at Terra Nova Gardens. It’s the first of the year. Since I started Terra Nova Gardens, the flocks of wild turkeys have diminished. I suspect since I fenced off the food source, they have moved on.to better places but the only draw to still hang around my garden is the natural spring for water. I haven’t seen the hawks for the same reason. The mice and snakes left when the high weeds were eradicated. I haven’t seen the feral white cat this year so something may have happen to it over the winter. I still see evidence of Nebraska Phil the garden ground hog. All the den entrances are open but I haven’t caught sight of him just yet.
I bought my first live trap to set out at Terra Nova Gardens. It will tell me what’s getting past the wooden fence and help me to know how to tighten it up. Nothing is planted yet except for the strawberries so for the time being it will be catch, a serious scolding, and release behind the fence.
Have a great wildlife watching day.

I love watching wild turkeys! They are so funny! Does your Tom try and chase them off through the fence? :)

We have lots of birds of prey–hawks and eagles, also sandhill cranes and geese, and on the ground we have rabbits, antelope, and coyotes.

Years ago a wild hen flew into my turkey pen and invited the Standard Bronze Tom to service her which he did with vigor. I wish a wild tom would come along and take care of my two Bourbon hens that are desperate to be bred. My Bourbon Tom passed about 6 weeks ago due to being used as a squeaky toy.
