Lucky Me
In Ohio, I had a HUGE rain barrel system that I loved. It was made with seven 55-gallon drums all linked together. On Monday, my name came up at the local winery so I could get a few used barrels.
These barrels are made with French oak, they should last for quite a while. I’m thinking of preserving them with a little jojoba to make them last even longer.
These will hopefully be made into lovely rain catchment devices. I’m planning on putting one of each side of my greenhouse when it gets build. I can’t wait to have lovely rain water for my seedlings and plants once again.
Do you have a rain barrel in your garden?

Those barrels are beautiful! We have 5 barrels of similar size, picked up years ago at the local Pepsi plant, stationed at downspouts. Taking the time to set up a watering system is such a gift to yourself when the dry, hot stretches of summer arrive.

Those will be beautiful as rain barrels! We have two 55 gallon barrels in our garden, although they’re bright blue plastic. We haven’t hooked them up for the season yet, but that’s in the next wave of garden prep for sure…

I DO have a water barrel — a big blue plastic 60 gallon one, and during the hot dry days of July and August, it is a gift! I used water from it yesterday even though we have had 12 days of rain here, but I was transplanting seedlings and wanted to give them a gentle drizzle of liquid kelp and rain water.
