The Cutting Garden
The cutting garden area in the main vegetable garden is a riot of color. Oddly enough, I’m not really one of those gardeners that likes all the colorful flowers spilling out of a border. My tastes tend to be more controlled and very monocromatic. I’m a fan of white, green and purpler in the garden with lots of green and only a few flowers. This area is quite lovely in its own respect, the pollinators are big fans.
I only planted a few packets of seed, which is amazing when you stand back and look at the display. $10 can really get you a lot of color when it comes to a cutting garden!
What’s your favorite cut flower?

Susy, your cut flower garden turned out amazing. So you’re not a Monty Don, huh. I’ve been reading his gardening book about his different gardens from the 1990s.. Many just look like a mess to me but he says it’s beautiful. The information about the plants is easy for me to digest and I like that part but I just couldn’t have a wild garden. Too much farmer DNA in me not to have some order in the garden. I do watch Gardener’s “World and today 20 years later the gardens seem to have some better organization. Still he likes to through a lot of stuff in a small area. I guess I’m just not a flower gardener yet.
I did plant some Forget Me Nots and they turned out great. I planted another kind of flower but I forget what it’s called and it turned out wonderful. Smaill beginnings. :-)
Have a great day in the cut flower garden.

My zinnia are the cutting flower- and this year they are going crazy! I almost can’t walk between the beds because of them. I don’t need a tidy border- but it makes gardening less irritating if you can actually get between/around your areas!

Your cutting garden is lovely. Are those tithonia in there?
to Misti's comment
Yes, I planted tithonia just for late season food for pollinators. It started early and has been going strong all summer. I’m not a huge fan of orange flowers, but I’m loving the tithonia. I’ll definitely be growing it every year.

I love this, I think it’s (another) idea of yours I’m stealing next year–on a much smaller scale :)
I really like daisies and brown-eyed susan’s for vases in the house, and scented blooms like lavender. I use whatever we have–garlic scapes and dill heads too!
