Friday Favorite: Rue
I bought this rue a few years ago and love it. Earlier this summer, I thought I had lost it in the drought. After much watering it started sprouting new leaves and then bloomed beautifully.
Last week I cut a sprig of flowers and it looked beautiful in a vase, it also lasted for a really long time. I’ll definitely be adding more of these to my garden in the future.
What flower are you loving right now?

I have blue caryopteris blooming now which is loved by the pollinators of all kinds. It is hardy to zone 5 and in my area of zone 5 it does not survive the winter, but readily reseeds itself. Original seeds are from Swallowtail Garden Seeds.
My question is what cultivar of rue do you have pictured. I googled, but did not find one with flowers such as yours.

The photos on my monitor are a gorgeous shade of lavender, I’m going to see if I can find it online.

My garden is short on fall blooms – something to remedy next year. But I had planted a drought tolerant bed of what was supposed to be this airy blend of lavender, grasses, and ‘apricot sunrise’ hyssop. Well, the hyssop kind of overachieved and rebloomed this fall, dwarfing everything else around it. It’s not at all the look I had planned…will have to figure that out next year….but it gives off this amazing aroma from about 15 feet away. I just have to find something else airy and maybe light golden to blend with it and soften the orange. But I do have to admire how much it settled in and hope it will come back as well next year!

Susy, no Fall flowers here other than the monstrous Hostas. They were here when I moved into my house 32 years ago. They grow up to be about four foot high. I’ve not really done any thing with them. They are on the North side of the house in a railroad tie raised bed and tower above my head when they bloom. They seem to be bullet proof as far as needing attention.
You always have such a variety of beautiful flowers. It’s inspiring to read about all the wonderful species that you find and grow.
Have a great Fall blooming flower day.
