Swedish Views
While Mr Chiots and I were in Sweden last month, we did a decent amount of driving (we put 600 miles on our new Volvo). We really enjoyed driving through the countryside, seeing the fields of potatoes, the stands of willow, and the farms dotting the landscape. We noticed the houses are all one of three or four colors and they all had beautiful tile roofs.
We noticed most people were flying Swedish flags and almost everyone had at least one apple tree in their yard. It was quite lovely to see the gardens and hedges and how simple and beautiful they were.
Susy, it looks like beautiful country. Many years ago, decades actually, when my wife and I were in the Army stationed in Germany. We took a holiday and went to Holland. The fields of tulips for as far as you could see are still something fixed in my mind. It was breath taking. Sprinkle in a few Dutch windmills and it was a landscape I now can only see in magazine pictures.
It is, to me, interesting how different cultures build their houses and grow their plants. Even within our own country, cultures are different from one state to the next. In Nebraska, empty farm houses most certainly have an Asparagus patch, a Rhubarb patch, and a small orchard that still lives on even when the gardener no longer tends them. It’s kind of sad in some ways to see the decay of a thriving garden and orchard but it’s the migration of the country life to city life that continues to make farms bigger in Nebraska and derelict farm buildings all across Nebraska in severe ruin to keep on rising.
Have a great Swedish View memory day.
