Filling the Nooks & Crannies
When I lived in Ohio and had a small garden I learned to take advantage of every single nook and cranny in the garden. Since I didn’t have much space, I needed every single inch that I could find to grow all the plants that I wanted to grow. Here in Maine I have way more space than I could ever cultivate, but I still take advantage of all those tiny spaces here and there, like the space under our little front porch between the porch and the giant rock that sits in front of the door.
Mostly I like filling them because otherwise they fill with weeds. This space fills with weeds and looks messy, I thought adding creeping thyme would fill it with lovely herbs that would bloom and provide beauty for me and food for the pollinators. Creeping thyme is one of my favorite plants to use filling the spaces here and there.
What’s a favorite plant you have for filling spaces throughout the garden?

Susy, I don’t have any favorite space filling plants. Ha, maybe that’s why I have weeds. Creeping Thyme? I might have to think about filling nooks and crannies.
Have a great nook and cranny day.

I LOVE creeping thyme. Did you plant from seed? I have a rock garden out front and it creeps from the crevices over the sidewalk a little. Softens everything. I bought the plants but just read something about mixing the seeds with some sand and a bit of soil and sprinkling into areas like this. I may try my hand at it next year.

These specific plants were transplanted from the potager, where my original plants which I did start from seed and spreading rampantly.
