Fairy Flies at Sunset

November 10th, 2016

The fairy flies have been out in force for the past few weeks. They’re such interesting creatures, they almost look like tiny fuzz balls floating through the air. I love seeing them floating around as the sun sets low in the sky.

I can see why the call them fairy flies both up close and from afar they look otherworldly. I didn’t get a close-up of them, google them and look at all the photos. The ones we have here and fuzzy and lavender in color. This time of year, they make a lovely evening even more magical.

Have you ever seen fairy flies?

I call them snow flies. They look like fluffy snowflakes flitting around the sky. The weather is going to be cool and stay that way a day or two or three when the snow flies are out. When they disappear it’s either too cold and winter has arrived, or it’s too warm and autumn isn’t quite through with us yet.

Susy, Fairy Flies? Never heard or seen such an insect. They look quite interesting. I bet they would be kind of magical to watch.

Have a great Fairy Fly day.

Love the name “fairy flies”! They are pine aphids, we were told by an entomologist from the Univ. of ME. But now I will call them by your magical name.
