So Long
Yesterday my grandpa passed away. He was a nature lover, an outdoorsman, a hunter, a fisherman, a lover of trees, and a gardener. I remember many trips into the woods with him teaching us how to identify trees by their bark and their leaves. I remember him peeling apples with his pocket knife after plucking them from the tree. Of course this was the same pocket knife he used to clean fish, simply wiping in on his sock before putting it back in his pocket.
He’s been in declining health for quite a while. It’s sad for him to be gone, but we’re thankful he’s once again able to wander through the trees doing what he loves.
How fortunate you are to have received all that love and knowledge from him!
He will be with you always as you do the things he loved to do, garden, walk in your woods, visit gardens, travel, and share your passions, as he clearly did.

Grandparents are such special people. I lost my grandfather last year. I miss him, but have such good memories of our time. I pray your sweet memories will be a comfort.

Susy, being the oldest in my generation, I knew not only my grandparents but my great grandparents as well. I have considered that truly a blessing. I only wish I had asked them more about their life but being only a lad of 12 when the last one passed, it wasn’t a high priority. We did visit them almost weekly and one great grandmother I stayed weekends with during my church confirmation training. I have a rich heritage from grandparents. You have that too. Being much older than you, I can tell you from experience the sadness in your heart right now will eventually turn to smiles when you think of them. Grandparents are special people that stay in your memories all the rest of your life.
My condolences to you and your family.

Your grandfather looked like a true gentleman. So kind and good. I loved that he wore sweater vests with ties to match. :) But most of all that he loved his family and was a nature lover. I know you will miss him very much. My condolences to you and your family. Hold on to those dear memories.

I am so sorry for your loss. The pictures of him with the children (great-granddaughters?) are precious. From your comments and those photos I am sure there are many great stories to remember him by.
