Not Giving Up Yet

March 28th, 2017

Winter is not willing to give up quite yet. This past week we’ve have quite a bit of winter weather. It’s been extremely beautiful though, so I can’t complain. Soon enough the snow will melt and we’ll be in that horrid in between stage where everything is a dull, muddy mess.

Susy, things are beginning to pop here in Nebraska. We have had several days of slow drizzly rain but temperatures are still in the high 30s to low 40s at night. This week the temperatures are going to be in the 60s during the day so everything will be coming out of hibernation. My seedlings will start being acclimated to outside living. I’ve surpassed my best expectations at Terra Nova Gardens with four new raised beds this year. I haven’t decided what will be in them just yet. That brings Terra Nova Gardens up to 12 raised beds with room for a few more next year.

I always purchase a couple Early Girl tomatoes to put in five gallon buckets for that first tomato of the season. Yesterday was that purchase. The tomatoes are not ready for the buckets just yet but soon will be outside during the day and inside during the night. The buckets allow the best of both worlds. I like to keep my tomato plants about 50 degrees at night. Last year my first tomato was June 20th. I’m hoping to hit that target again this year.

We are kind of on the tail end of the muddy mess Spring thaw. Have a great Winter Wonder Land day.
