A Favorite

July 18th, 2017

Every time a flower blooms I’m reminded why I have it in my garden. My favorite flower is whatever is blooming at the time. At the moment, the peony poppies are exquisite.

I have these blooming in all sorts of colors, lavender, dark pink, light pink, white. There are single ones and double ones. Next year I’m thinking of getting a few seeds for some dark ones, I’d love to see some almost black ones in with this pink color.

What’s your favorite thing blooming in the garden right now?

Susy, all my blooming flowers are on the front patio. Impatiens abound there. I sit enjoying my coffee or cold beverage while watching the neighborhood activity. I still have a few flowers to plant in the living poor man’s patio. You are so right about favorite flowers being the ones that are in bloom.

Have a great flower enjoying time in the garden.

Some of the bloomers here now are rose of Sharon, crepe myrtles, French marigolds, and lilies. The crepe myrtles seem to bear up to the heat and humidity, which makes them a welcome sight. The French marigolds are from seeds I got from Mom. They seemed to take a longer time to begin blooming than they should have, but now that they have started, I expect they will provide a continuous 3 more months of cheery blooms.
The most unusual thing blooming right now is a white lily that came up in the spirea bush. I don’t know if it came from a seed or bulbil of my ‘Montana’ lily, but it is much taller–probably 5 or 6 feet tall. I’m assuming it’s not genetically identical to the ‘Montana’ and that the taller height is not just because the soil is more fertile under the bush or because the lily was reaching for light. Who knows, though.
That’s a lovely photo of your poppy.
