Quote of the Day: Benjamin Franklin

January 1st, 2012

Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each new year find you a better man.

~Benjamin Franklin

New Years Resolutions do not get made here, but I do try to focus on making myself better each and every year. It’s not something I sit down and decide to do when the new year arrives, but something I think about all year long. Generally, I notice things throughout the year and try to be proactive about changing them. I think so many people fall off the resolution bandwagon because they wait till New Year’s to make big changes instead of making small adjustments all year long.

Do you make resolutions? What are some of yours this year?

…No, I generally don’t do New Year’s resolutions. I too feel that each day when you wake up it is a new start and an opportunity to make changes to become a better person. Maybe we ought to start a “Happy New Day” movement, eh? ;o)

……”Happy New Year Chiots Family!” My hope is that the new year is filled with love, happiness, prosperity and good health! :o)

    …Blessings :o)

I don’t do resolutions either, but I think about two or three areas that I want to work on.
This year I want to get back into making bread.I used to bake every other day and got out of that habit.
I want to grow more in my garden, both vegetables and herbs. And I want to start growing heirloom plants so I can save the seed.
Last of all,I want to sew more,I think about it….but don’t make the time to sit down and do it.
Happy New Year to All and may it be a wonderful year for us all! Darlene

Well Im a resolution girl.. but I am also like you in that I work on them all thru the year as they come up, not waiting for New Years day..

This year I am resolved to finish up a few organizational projects that I’ve been simmering over for a while.. some are half done, some not at all.

I have resolved to not consume as much anything as I have in years past.. Im already doing this, but it continues to be important to me.. this includes foods, clothing, stuff.. anything & everything.. Recycling also plays a big part in this. I’ve seen our trash outlay reduce in huge amounts in the last year. This is a great thing.

I’ve resolved to eating more local foods.. my 2012 CSA purchase has already been made and Im looking forward to it.. Im thinking about joining a community garden again too.. havent decided for sure yet.

I also have problems with some consumables so I’ve got to get them out of my diet again.. This one is probably the most difficult since I love some of them.

Happy New Year Susy & Everyone Else too..
I hope 2012 is a wonderful and blessed year for us all! ♥

I typically don’tmake New Year’s resolutions for the same reason as you.

We have been, however, trying to live more sustainably, the way we did when we first were married. Just sort of lost our way a bit but now we’re back into it all so much more. – We’ve always lived the principles of “down home” & such somewhat but not near what we’ve wanted. Now we have more time to devote to living the way we want and being able to enjoy it more in the process.

I’m gonna have to get a newer “Carrots love Tomatoes” – mine’s falling apart – it doesn’t help that I bought it when it was first published! :o)

My resolution began back in August 2011. I started swimming again & wish I had started back up sooner.

I completely agree with the minor adjustments along the way. I’ve never done “resolutions” either, but it is cool how the flipping of the calendar somehow is a sort of “mile marker” for a bigger picture reflection on where you’ve come from and where you’re going. Aside from often being poorly planned/thought out … resolutions also come up against the very nature of life: change. We never really know what’s coming in a year. 2011 reminded our family of that many times over! So, we’ll just keep at the minor adjustments and watch what God does in and around us as life throws whatever it may at us. I think that’s my “resolution” :-)

no resolutions – just a few goals: continue eating healthy and when possibly locally. hit the 1 year of being cigarette free mark… and continue on. read more & watch less. expand my garden, cooking, and food preservation skills, abilities and knowledge. try and write on my blog more.

Happy New Year to you and yours :-)
