Grow Light Salad

February 12th, 2018

A few weeks ago, I seeded four flats of various types of greens. Arugula won the race to the dinner place, we enjoyed a delicious salad on Saturday morning for breakfast.

Being one of my favorite greens, I’m happy that arugula won the race. In fact, we could have harvested enough for a salad in the middle of last week, I just had some greens from the grocery store in the fridge already. It’s exciting to be harvesting things from under he grow lights. In the future, arugula is going to be my go-to winter grow light crop.

Are you harvesting anything for your plate at the moment?

Susy, I always have intentions to start some salad greens under the grow lights but just never seem to get to it. Now it’s getting close to actual seed starting time. I think I’ll start emptying some of those old seed packs into flats and see if any thing sprouts. Maybe I can get some salad mix in March. The best time to start sowing Winter salad mix was last December. The next best time is now.

Have a great fresh salad day.

I’m harvesting brassicas from the garden. I left some late sown beetroot & carrots insitu in raised beds so I’m still harvesting those. Also some spinach. Just very glad to have some fresh greens to put on our plates at this time of year.
