Bringing the Garden In

August 1st, 2008

Someday I would love to have a dedicated cutting garden. Until then, I steal blossoms from here and there where they won’t be missed. This hydrangea was cut from the back of the bush, no one will even notice it’s gone and I’ll be able to enjoy it on my coffee table. I could even dry it for enjoying all winter (perhaps some limelight hydrangea blooms will enjoy that fate).

Sunshine Day

July 31st, 2008

This is a volunteer sunflower that came up in my front flowerbed. Well, actually it was stolen from my bird feeder and planted there by chipmunks.

Chamomile at Dusk

July 27th, 2008

My Chamomile is blooming. A couple nights ago, I noticed how they glowed at dusk. They’re just waiting to be picked & dried for tea this winter.

My Mom’s Garden

July 23rd, 2008

I think I caught the gardening bug from my mom. She’s always been an avid gardener, both ornamental & edible. When I was young we had a HUGE vegetable garden at my grandparents house out in the country. We worked in the garden all summer and then canned and preserved all the produce we grew. About 15 years ago my parents moved to a new house with a nice-sized city lot. There was a ton of room for gardens. They have an orchard, a small garden and many ornamental beds. I think this bed was the first one put it – it’s called “The Garden of Eden”. It’s in a small fairly wet area of their yard. It looks great throughout the summer with things blooming all the time. This photo was taken on July 11.

A few more of my mom’s flowers.

Mr. Chiots loves these plants. I’m going to get a start from my mom.

Too Many Daylilies?

July 21st, 2008

I must admit, I’m not a huge fan of daylilies. The gardener that lived here before me however, loved them. I had mountains of daylilies when we moved in, there were really no other flowers to speak of. I have given most of them away (they are all in my mother’s garden). A few remain, I’m keeping them around until I find something to replace them with.
