Rest? Not a Chance

September 8th, 2009

We had a busy busy weekend around here. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you know that Mr Chiots and I own a business, it keeps us rather busy, but we don’t mind. This weekend we didn’t get to celebrate like most folks, we were working all weekend. On Sunday evening when we were driving home from a job I calculated that we only spent 7 hours at home and awake from Friday morning till very early Monday morning. We were up early and out late every night, this is what we were doing if you’d like to check it out.

We don’t mind being busy, but every now and then we get a little too busy for even for us. I’m looking forward to some time off soon!

What did you do this weekend, were you working, relaxing, spending time with family?

Old Friendships

August 18th, 2009

I spent this weekend in Cincinnati, OH with a few of my girlfriends from college. We had a great time staying up late, chatting about everything we’re doing now and things we did then.

We enjoyed eating all the food that’s specific to the great city of Cincinnati like Skyline Chili and Graeter’s Ice Cream.

We visited the campus of our alma mater and got the see the excited new freshman moving in (which is what we were doing 15 years ago). On Saturday night, we went downtown to watch a movie at Fountain Square and enjoy the city life like we did in college.

We even took a carriage ride around the city that night (because of the economy they’re the same price they were when we were in college 15 years ago).

We all live in different places now, with families, kids, husbands and dogs keeping busy with our individual lives. It’s always good to drop all of that for a weekend and get together to remember the fun times we had back when we were young and in college without a care in the world (or a cent to our names).

Do you ever get together with old friends?

Summer Fun: Swimming

July 8th, 2009

Mr Chiots and I don’t have any children, but we have 2 nieces and a nephew and a new little niece (at least that’s what they say) on the way any day now. My sister has them all in swim classes this summer at the local pool. (more photos on Flickr if you want to head over there and check them out)

They were super excited to show me all of the swimming skills that they are learning so I went to one of their swim classes last week.

Hannah, the oldest, is doing great and she moved up to a level 3 this week.
Swimming
It was a lovely day for swimming, nice and sunny, but it was a little cold as you can tell by poor little Heidi’s purple lips.

They sure do have fun at swim classes. I think swimming is definitely a fun activity for kids.
After_Swim_Lessons
I don’t get that excited about swimming, in fact I think it has been more than 15 years ago since I was actually in a pool. Perhaps I’m just not a water person, I’d rather be gardening for sure.

What about you, do you love swimming in the summer or are you more of a dry land kind of person?

I LOVE Ethel Gloves

July 3rd, 2009

I love Ethel Gloves, you may remember how excited I was when Mr Chiots got some for me for Christmas.

You’ve probably seen them in just about any post featuring my hands. I’m always wearing them when I’m out working, and when I don’t need them they’re always close by waiting (usually in my pocket).

When I love something I’m the kind of person that tells everyone about it. If you’re looking for the most comfortable gardening glove ever, buy a pair.
Planting_in_Ethel_Gloves
They really are the perfect gardening glove offering a great fit that gives you perfect dexterity while gardening. You can do everything from heavy digging to pulling out teeny tiny seedlings in them. One of the best features is that they’re washable, no stiffness afterwards (and the look brand new again).

Ethel really appreciates people that love their products so they featured Chiot’s Run on their website. Head on over there and check out all the article about me and all the great Ethel Gloves. If you need a gift for a gardener in your life, these are perfect.

Do you have a favorite gardening product you just love?

Scrubbing Up

June 27th, 2009

Now that Mr Chiots and I are in our busy season for our business (if you don’t know what we do check out 2nd Mile Productions). Since we’re going to weddings most weekends I have to look professional and presentable, that means no dirty gardening fingers.
Soap_by_sink
So, on Friday evenings I take some time to scrub up my hands to get all that dirt out from under my fingernails. I don’t have one of those nail brushes, I just use an old toothbrush and a bar of all-natural non-toxic gardener’s soap I got at the farmer’s market. I also use some baking soda to get rid of the dry patches on my hands from so much hand-washing during the week and I finish with some good non-toxic lotion (and occasionally a few drops of olive oil).

Do you have any trip & tricks for cleaning up your hands from all those gardening chores?
