J is for _____________

August 12th, 2011

JOVIAL – not much of an cryer or a melancholy soul – laughing is more my speed.

JUDICIOUS – I think I have pretty good judgement – my life experience has given me a good foundation for making wise decisions. I definitely look to the future and try to plan ahead.

JUMPY – I’m easily startled. Probably because I’m always engrossed in thought.

JIGSAW PUZZLES – I find working puzzles to be relaxing and fun. In the winter we often have a jigsaw puzzle on the table for those spare moments.

JADED – because of some life experiences I can be a bit jaded in certain areas – perhaps I should say realistic more than jaded.

American Gothic with a Twist

August 11th, 2011

Mr Chiots and I are huge fans of the No Agenda Show with John C. Dvorak and Adam Curry. We’ve been listening since the beginning when it was kind of a food/wine show. It’s grown into so much more than that, now they deconstruct the news and world events. It helps pass the many hours we spend in the car when we go to weddings and keeps us up on what’s going on in the world. It’s informative, crazy and highly entertaining.

Adam and the lovely Miss Micky are out on the road traveling around the country on “The Hot Pockets 2008 Tour” and they just happened to stop by Chiot’s Run for a few days. We enjoyed chatting with them over a homegrown dinner about food and politics. Miss Micky even posted a few beautiful photos of the gardens at Chiot’s Run on their Facebook page. It’s always funny to meet someone you feel like you know from listening to them often. It certainly was a pleasure having the chance to get to know Adam & Micky.

You can’t let “Crackpot” come to your house without doing something a little crazy, so I had them pose out front of the cottage for an American Gothic remake. They happily dressed up and played along.

Have you ever hosted someone at your home that you never thought you would? Any great podcasts to recommend that you enjoy?

I is for _____________

August 11th, 2011

INTROVERT – not much of one for social situations or to get out & about – I’m an introvert through and through.

INTERESTING – I’d certainly say that I’m an interesting person. I’ve had a lot of life experience, traveling far and wide, seen many things and read a great number of books.

INDEPENDENT – probably because I’m an introvert I’ve always been a bit independent, doing things by myself and for myself.

INDECISIVE – it’s not so much that I can’t make a decision, but rather I’m fairly laid back about things and really don’t mind what ends up happening.

IN LOVE – Mr Chiots – need I say more?

IMPERFECT – As much as I’d love to be perfect I have to admit I’m not.

INDUSTRIOUS – You’ll always find me doing something, making something, starting a business.

INSTINCTIVE – I think part of being an introvert and being introspective give me good instincts.

H is for _______________

August 10th, 2011

HOMEBODY – I’ve always been one to stay at home.

HEALTHY – My health is always something I’ve been very conscious of – definitely a priority in my life. Although my ideas on what constitutes “healthy” have changed through the years.

HONEST – I was raised in a conservative Christian home and was taught the value of honesty. If I’m not charged for something at the store, I return to pay for it. I don’t take what’s not mine. I’m not expedient and don’t expect things for free or to come without working hard for them. I value honesty in others very much, sadly, it seems to be a quality lacking in our society today.

HARDY – I’m able to take a lot of things and put up with a lot. I can hike for miles and work for hours. That being said, I don’t do well without regular meals!

HELLO KITTY – Ever since I was a little girl I’ve loved Hello Kitty. I distinctly remember having a pair of treasured Hello Kitty sandals that I loved as a girl.

HIKER – I truly enjoy hiking and will choose it as a vacation activity any time I can. Probably this has something to do with my necessity to be outside and breathe fresh air.

HARD WORKER – you’ll find me always working, rarely sitting down. I work hard to accomplish my goals, this is how I can get so much done.

HOLISTIC – the older I get the more I would describe myself in this way. I try to focus on the whole picture, especially when it comes to food & health. I also appreciate homeopathic medicine since it takes into the consideration the whole person.

G is for ______________

August 9th, 2011

GARDENING – I didn’t use to be much of a gardener, but have grown to love it over the past 9 years. It’s such a great hobby because it’s: relaxing, active, fun, creative, and so many other wonderful things.

GRANOLA – not meaning that I like granola, but meaning that I’m a granola. For some funny descriptions of “granolas” see the Urban Dictionary. Although I don’t fit all the parameters of a granola, I’m pretty crunchy!

GENEROUS – I’ve always been a generous person, I try to give generously of my time with friends & family when possible and give generously of my money to charities and those in need.

GOOD – this is how my teachers always described me on my report cards and a “pleasure to have in class”. I’ve always been naturally good.

GOOFY – Yep, I can be a bit goofy sometimes.

About

This is a daily journal of my efforts to cultivate a more simple life, through local eating, gardening and so many other things. We used to live in a small suburban neighborhood Ohio but moved to 153 acres in Liberty, Maine in 2012.
