Wise Words
Go back to simple food, simple clothes, simple pleasures.
Pray hard, work hard, sleep hard and play hard.
Do it all courageously and cheerfully. – Herbert Hoover
Does it get any more simple than this?
Endless Beauty
I love hydrangeas, therefore, I have many different kinds growing in my gardens. This is one of my Endless Summer Hydrangeas.
They do so well here in Northeastern Ohio, I’m always guaranteed some beautiful blooms throughout the summer. I planted this hydrangea 2 years ago, it looked good last year, but boy does it look fantastic this year. It’s just polluted with blooms.
I’m excited because it will be blooming all summer long (I suppose that’s why they call it Endless Summer)! I love that the blossoms come out purple and change to pink, this blossom is halfway through the change.
The Pumpkins are Growing!
I checked on my pumpkin vine today and boy has it grown a ton! Sadly, one of the little pumpkinettes didn’t make it through all the rain we had, but at least one is still doing well on that vine! It’s as big as a softball! Below you can see it’s size now and it’s size 10 days ago, when it was the size of a large marble.
Happy 4th of July!
We are very patriotic here at Chiot’s Run, our flag is up spring, summer, and fall. Nothing complements a nice garden like the Red, White & Blue!
Teeny Tiny Bird’s Nest
While I was visiting my mom the other day she told me about a tiny bird’s nest in one of her butterfly bushes. It really is a tiny nest, you can’t really tell by the photo, but the eggs are about the size of marbles. We’re not sure what kind of bird it is, I’ll have to see if I can figure it out? The little bird was chirping at us from a tree while we took a few photos of it’s little treasures.
A few sites to help identify birds & their nests:
All About Birds – a great general website to help identify birds.
Sialis – has photos of many eggs and how to identify birds by the eggs in the nests.
Nest Watch– helps identify birds by the sizes of their nests and the eggs inside. You can also sign up and enter the information about the nests located in your yard. This would be a great thing to do with kids!
