Eating, Reading, and Relaxing

June 17th, 2015

It’s been a nice few days spent in the Brandywine Valley area visiting gardens, eating delicious food, and learning a lot of history. On Tuesday, we visited Hagley Museum, yesterday we went to Terrain in the morning, had brunch there and then were off to Winterthur.

The food was delicious, we only ate out twice since we rented a little house. Most of the time we cooked in our house, big salads topped with bacon, avocados, and tomatoes for breakfast. We packed out lunches while out and about, and made quick dinners at home. You can save a lot of money cooking your own meals while traveling, renting a house instead of a hotel is comfortable and makes this possible.
Of course there was time to read while on vacation, I finished two books. The first was The Rhyme of the Magpie: A Birds of a Feather Mystery, a cozy mystery. A quick, and enjoyable read, just the kind of book that you want when traveling through airports. The second was The Perfect Son, which I thoroughly enjoyed!
In the summer I don’t read too much, I spend most of my extra time in the garden. It’s so nice to have time to be inspired by visiting beautiful gardens and have time to relax and read. It’s especially nice when it comes in the middle of a very busy season.

This is a daily journal of my efforts to cultivate a more simple life, through local eating, gardening and so many other things. We used to live in a small suburban neighborhood Ohio but moved to 153 acres in Liberty, Maine in 2012.
