Swedish Community Garden day 4

October 27th, 2016

Are tired of looking at the plots from the community garden in Sweden? I didn’t think so. We spent over an hour walking around these gardens enjoying each plot. Even with all the photos I took, it didn’t even scratch the surface of this fantastic space. Here are more of the lovely plots.

There was one little plot in the community garden that was by far my favorite, the style and organization of the garden was right in line with my tastes as far as gardens go. There was a lovely little greenhouse, a tiny cottage, hedges, flowers, and vegetables – it was garden perfection! What I loved the most about this garden was the buildings, they were fantastic. As you can guess, the little greenhouse was a favorite and I took loads of photos to hopefully build something similar in my garden.

What I really loved about this community garden we stumbled on is the variety of garden types. Most people had at least some edible plants, but some focused entirely on growing food while others were almost all flowers. Some were very elaborate and meticulously planned, others were very utilitarian and thrifty.

While Mr Chiots and I were driving to the Lacko Slott Castle , we passed a wonderful community garden and remembered to stop and stroll through on our way back to the highway. It was quite an amazing space, they were some plots that were simply gardens and some had beautiful little cottages on them. There were so many wonderful spaces, too many for one blog post, so I’ll break it into a few.

Friday Favorite: Community Gardens

August 12th, 2016

Last week, when my friend and I were in Vermont, we stumbled across a lovely community garden in Shelburne Falls. There are a good number of plots, all of them unique, and each one beautiful. Together, they formed a beautiful garden quilt brimming with vegetables and flowers. There’s something wonderful about people coming together and making a garden in a public space. Growing food for their friends and families and cultivating community while they do. I could go on and on telling you about what we saw, but luckily I had my camera so you can see them for yourself (even if photos don’t quite do it justice).

We spent quite awhile walking around this garden admiring all the plots and getting ideas for our edible gardens. I love seeing real gardens, the ones people live in and use. Botanical gardens are nice in their own way, but often what we see is not attainable for us in our own spaces. Community gardens like this one are truly the most beautiful gardens of all!

Have you ever had a plot in a community garden? Are there any in your area?
