Friday Favorite: Fun with Family

October 26th, 2018

In case you’ve noticed, I haven’t been posting this week. That’s because my sister made the trip up to Maine with the nieces & nephew. We’ve been visiting lighthouses, seeing the sights, and eating all the good things Maine has to offer.

What fun things have you been doing this fall?

A Week Off

August 20th, 2018

Sorry for not blogging last week, I had grand intentions of writing posts ahead of time to post while I was in Ohio. Preparations to be away got the best of me and I didn’t end up having time to write the posts ahead of time. We drove to Ohio last Monday and spent the week visiting with family. My brother drove up from Georgia and my dad had just arrived back in the US from South America. Since my sister lives close to my dad’s Ohio home, she was already there. Here we are at Brandywine Falls in Cuyahoga National Park.

We went to the art museum, we went to gardens, we went out to eat, we laughed, we had a great time catching up. Then we had the privilege of attending the wedding of a dear friend on Saturday. All-in-all, a great week, albeit tiring.

A Whirlwind Trip

April 5th, 2017

We’ve been trying to find a weekend when my brother could travel to Ohio to see my mom. Last Thursday evening around 7pm, I got a note from my brother that he finally had a weekend off and was headed up (he lives in GA). I quickly searched for flights and didn’t find any on such short notice. So I made a few last minute arrangements and hopped in the car on Friday evening to drive to Ohio. Mr Chiots and I traveled until midnight, stopped about halfway, then were on the road again at 6 the next morning. Amazingly, we arrived in Ohio at the exact same time as my brother.

This is the first time the entire family has been together in 12 years. My parents were throughly surprised (which is what my brother wanted). We were thankful to be able to make one of my mom’s final wishes come true. We enjoyed lots of great food and lots of laughs during the two days we were together. What a blessing family is!

Family Day At Kingwood

November 1st, 2016

Kingwood Center in Mansfield is a real gem, it’s a beautiful garden that’s small enough for a quick trip on a nice day. It’s only an hour away from my parent’s house, so we often take an afternoon to visit the gardens when I’m back in Ohio visiting. It’s also inexpensive, only $5 per car to get in, which makes it doable for my sister and her four kids to join us.

The weather was perfect that day, sunny and 75 degrees, amazing for the end of October. My mom felt well enough to walk around the gardens with us and we had a nice afternoon enjoying what will probably be the last warm day of the year. It was a beautiful day at a beautiful garden.

Do you have a favorite outing as a family?

Friday Favorite: FaceTime

December 12th, 2014

Technology is pretty amazing, it can enhance our lives in so many ways. I mentioned earlier that we did the 12 days of Maine Christmas with our nieces & nephew. Their FaceTime wasn’t working for a few days, not we’re back up and running. It’s so much better to be able to watch all of them trying to guess what’s inside the box.
chatting with the kids
Being able to video chat is one of the great things about the times we live in. It’s so nice to be able to see someone face to face while talking. The introvert in my hates talking on the phone, but I don’t mind video chatting at all.

Do you use video chat to keep in contact with loved ones far away?
