Lovely Sight

August 30th, 2008

Yesterday morning when I went out to look around, I noticed that many of the plants were drooping low with the weight of the rain from the last 2 days. We really needed rain, so I’m glad they’re bending to the ground heavy laden with water than with wilt from lack of it. The asparagus fern was particularly beautiful since each of it’s feathery branches was covered in tiny drops. What a lovely sight.

I got 250 gallons of water in my rain barrels from the last system that moved through. Can I get a Hip Hip Hooray?

First Blush

July 29th, 2008

While out tying up the tomatoes today, I spotted the first tomato that’s starting to turn red. MMMM, I can’t wait. This is a Viva Italia tomato that I started from seed this spring.

Wise Words

July 14th, 2008

Go back to simple food, simple clothes, simple pleasures.
Pray hard, work hard, sleep hard and play hard.
Do it all courageously and cheerfully. – Herbert Hoover

Does it get any more simple than this?

Endless Beauty

July 6th, 2008

I love hydrangeas, therefore, I have many different kinds growing in my gardens. This is one of my Endless Summer Hydrangeas.

They do so well here in Northeastern Ohio, I’m always guaranteed some beautiful blooms throughout the summer. I planted this hydrangea 2 years ago, it looked good last year, but boy does it look fantastic this year. It’s just polluted with blooms.
I’m excited because it will be blooming all summer long (I suppose that’s why they call it Endless Summer)! I love that the blossoms come out purple and change to pink, this blossom is halfway through the change.

Reading & Watching

Shop through these links and I get a few cents each time. It's not much, but it allows me to buy a new cookbook or new gardening book every couple months. I appreciate your support!

This is a daily journal of my efforts to cultivate a more simple life, through local eating, gardening and so many other things. We used to live in a small suburban neighborhood Ohio but moved to 153 acres in Liberty, Maine in 2012.
