Starting a Few More Seeds

July 7th, 2008

This morning I started a few more seeds: 3 Burpee’s Fordhook Zucchini seeds, 5 Super Red Cabbage seeds (I bought these at DeHoff’s in Alliance), 5 Hale’s Best Cantaloupe seeds (I know it’s late, figured I’d give it a shot, I’m planting them on my front hillside that a zone warmer than the rest of my lot), and 5 Saffron summer squash seeds. I’m hoping the zucchini and squash will be ready for a late summer harvest. I recently read about starting a few more plants in early July, so when the plants that are producing start slowing down you still have a few plants at peak for a heavier harvest later in the season (we’ll see how that works out!). I’m trying to do a better job tracking what I start and when I start them (part of the reason for starting this blog). I also need to label my plants better, so here’s what I’m doing now.

I know absolutely nothing about horticulture except that I will eat fruit and vegetables Still, I just had to compliment your blog layout and the photography. Very nice work.

Thanks Steve! You should try growing a tomato plant in a pot on your porch sometime. You might catch the gardening bug once you try a homegrown tomato!
