Not So Appetizing

October 25th, 2008

After reading this article, a CAFO beef steak doesn’t sound so appetizing anymore. This line really got me: Animal feed legally can contain rendered road kill, dead horses, and euthanized cats and dogs.

Give me pastured please!
Happy cows = happy people here at Chiot’s Run.

I couldn’t agree more! A year ago I discovered factory farming and couldn’t quit meat/dairy quick enough! I feel I’m much healthier now that I live on a plant based diet and have even started my own modest little garden :) Really, we don’t “need” meat or dairy to thrive at all – it’s good to know. It’s great that you are directing your readers to more “veggie” information.

Thanks for inviting comment – great blog here…

Don’t assume that just because milk is pasteurized means the cows were treated well.

Visit http://www.unhappycows.com to see just how happy those “happy cows” really are.

Oh I don’t Wesley. We buy raw milk from a small local farm where the cows roam the pastures freely every day. This is also the farm we buy our beef, chickens, turkeys and eggs from.

Bea-I know the more I read about it the more I never want to eat CAFO beef/chicken/milk/etc again. We have a small local farm that we buy raw milk from pastured cows. We love love love. We also love that we know the farmer’s and that we are supporting them. All the money I pay for milk goes directly to them.

Wow. I didn’t know some of this stuff! I started buying meat from my farmer’s market last year and I feel so much better about it. I don’t go near a meat case at the store now.
Watching the documentary Food Inc. was a eye opening experience for me, which I’m sure you have seen by now.
    Thanks for the article.
