What I’m Missing

December 12th, 2008

I love everything about winter, the snow, the cold weather and everything else. But every now and then I find myself longing for the warmer months (especially on those cold rainy dark days). So what am I missing about the summer today? Flip Flops.

I love love love free feet. I wear sandals & flip flops all summer long. My feet hate being cooped up in socks and stuffed into shoes, but soon enough they’ll be free again.

What are you missing about summer?

Our evening family walks. It is too cold (and dark) to have Brooklyn out in the evenings, I really miss them – so does Harley :)

    Oh yeah……and flip flops too!

Oh yeah, I’m so with you on that one. I walk around here bare foot or in flip-flops from spring to fall!! :)

I’m missing flip flops too. Also, being able to walk the dog without worrying about falling on my face – the sidewalks are icy here!

I miss being able to go outside barefoot or in sandals. But most of all I miss the dirt on my knees and under my nails from working in the garden. Probably most of the people I work with would think that is weird, but here it’s OK to say that. Thanks.

I’m missing the smell of the air that has been warmed by the sunshine. I’m missing the fresh raspberries and blueberries that were growing outside my door. And yes, flip flops…love them…miss them…wait, I’m still wearing them. I must’ve toughened up since I moved out to the country! :-)

I read your article on butternut squash with great interest. I found a germinated seed in a squash I was ready to cook. Now potted, the plant has grown three feet. I am growing it inside the house in a sunny south-eastern room. So far it had put out 15 male blossums. The female blossums have formed, but none have opened. The foliage is a healthy green and I water often because of our dry days here in Denver. Any ideas…William

William: That’s very interesting about your squash, I’ve never had a germinated seed inside a squash before (perhaps I’ll find one this winter). The female blossoms do take longer to open than the male ones. If they don’t open at all perhaps there aren’t enough daylight hours. You can eat the blossoms, they’re delicious! we like to stuff them with cheese, batter them and fry them. /2008/07/13/fried-squash-blossoms/

Keep me posted on whether or not you end up getting a squash. It’s always fun to experiment isn’t it!
