Happy Valentine’s Day from Chiot’s Run
Mr Chiots and I aren’t big celebratory people. Last year Brian and I were working in the office unaware that it was our 10 year anniversary. My mom e-mailed me a Happy Anniversary message and I looked at Brian and said,
“OH, it’s our anniversary. Happy Anniversary.”
He looked at me and said,
“Oh, it is isn’t it. Happy Anniversary.”
Then we went back to work. So naturally we don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day. Mr Chiots thinks it’s a holiday dreamed up by the card companies during a dead zone between other holidays (he may be on to something).
I know many of you celebrate this holiday of love, so I thought I’d share a few photos of love-themed goodies I spotted on my recent trip to West Side Market in Cleveland. I got a great variety of things to make sure to cover all the bases.
If you celebrate with chocolate, here’s some chocolate for you.
For those of you who like cookies and other delights, I thought you’d like these.
For those of you who prefer something sweet but not of the chocolate realm, some beautiful little cakes for you.
If you prefer something a little different, how about some dark chocolate Guinness stout cake?
If you like flowers I’ll give you some from my gardens.
For those of you who just want some time to relax, take a cue from Dexter and enjoy your Saturday.
My all-time favorite, “A Bunny for Your Honey”. Now that’s right up my alley, who needs chocolate bunnies when you can eat the real thing!
How do you celebrate this day of Love? Do you do anything exciting, over the top, romantic, not so romantic, boring?
(take the new poll)
I am not really a valentine’s day person either, never have been. It just seems odd to summon up “love” on a particular calendar day when, say, I might have slipped on the ice coming up the driveway or had a disaster with the printer at work. (Well, you know what I mean)
My parents are coming to visit this year (since it falls inside a long weekend), and my mother has planned for a concert (Beethoven 3d) on Sunday, so that is pretty much it…. unless someone else has planned something? I can’t have choco, so that kind of takes out a lot of the “traditional” holiday stuff. Though for some reason, I do feel like recognizing more “odd” holidays this year, to remind myself that there is often something good to think of, even when things might be rough. Maybe some non-choco baking?

Oh oh what a range of emotions. Love the sweet treats but in love with those flowers, swoon. Wow. Then I got to the bunny post and well now I feel ill, as I picture my poor bunny as food.
EEK!
What a range of emotions!!

This year, since it falls on a Saturday, we’re celebrating by getting the hell out of Dodge. That is, we’re going to a nearby city to have lunch at a Thai restaurant (yay for ethnic food!) and go to an art museum. And I already got my gift, which is always jewelry. My husband is surprisingly good at picking out jewelry for me, and he always gets me something for Valentine’s Day. He knows that he’d better, or else be subject to my martryed, “Oh, you didn’t HAVE to get me anything. SIGH.”
I’m all for being romantic every day of the year, but unless you have a man who really DOES bring home flowers just because it’s Tuesday or whatever (I do not have one of those), then a specific day when they know what’s expected of them is useful.
Happy V-Day!

We’re pretty low key but we usually exchange chocolate..not heart shaped boxes but really good chocolate. We’re fortunate to have a great chocolatier here. It gives us something to do at the end of winter trying to exercise off all of the weight we gain from Valentine’s day candies!

Love the photos!!!
My daughter was (once again) perplexed by the thought that her father and I aren’t ‘doing something’ for Valentines day. I don’t get excited by holidays either, Thanksgiving is my favorite because it revolves around Food!
We’re pretty practical people around here (not sure why my daughter hasn’t figured that out after 15 years of living with us) My husband once gave me a hammer for Mothers Day….and you can take that any way you want :)

Mr. Chiots is right, but then again, Christmas in America was created by Coca Cola to sell more pop. Go figure. Still, it is a cute holiday.
We have young kids, so romantic isn’t in for us. I got a card and some See’s candy for her. She got me some extra dark chocolate (for my health if you buy that), tasty!
For dinner we went out to Red Robin to celebrate an early birthday dinner for my eldest (turning 5 on President’s Day). We had fun, the kids had fun, what more can you ask for?
