Things I Miss About Summer: Blue Skies
One of the things I start missing about summer this time of year, is the deep blue sky. We don’t get a lot of sunny days here in Northeastern Ohio during the winter months. We do get a sunny day occasionally, but the sky just isn’t this blue, it’s kind of gray.
Since I was missing the blue skies, I looked through all of my photos from the summer and thought I’d share some blue skies to brighten everyone’s day. Enjoy!
I miss working in the gardens with the warm sun on my back. Soon enough it will be that time again, and I’ll make sure to take notice of the deep blue skies!
What do you miss about summer this time of year?

Beautiful sky photos! I took a photo of my daughter outside the other day and the sky was so gorgeously blue. I showed it to hubby and said “want to move back to NY where the sky never looks like this in February?” and we both laughed. We do love summer up there though. 6 months of gray is hard to handle.

I am missing open windows and fresh air. Even though we do get some hot temps (southern Ohio), I hold off as long as I can in turning on the air conditioner. I love having the windows open and fresh air breezing through. That’s what I miss.

Not having to wear four layers of clothing at all times. Makes me feel all trussed up and puffy. But then summer comes, and I start to kind of miss wearing sweaters . . . I guess I’m never satisfied.

I miss blue skies too! I get to this point where I start to forget that it will ever not be winter again. Thank you for those brilliant pictures!

I NEED SUNSHINE! I HEAR YOU!
to MeghanO's comment
I really hear you all on the sunshine. I work in, essentially, a bunker. No windows, no doors that face the outside, nothing of the sort. For about two months of the year I only see the sun on weekends or, if I get lunch and can go out, lunch.
Some people scoff at SAD. They are wrong.

I miss sitting outside late into the evening, catching up on the day with my husband.

I agree Mike, SAD is a real thing. I know I start to feel it if we have too many dark days in a row. I like to sit in the sun when it comes through the windows on a sunny winter days.

I also work in a bunker, Mike! A basement office with a window that faces the hallway (nice, huh?). The closest window is 50 feet from my desk. So even in the summer, it’s not cheery in here. So it doesn’t matter what the season is, it’s never sunny where I work. But I do miss the warmth of the sun, sitting on the front porch, nights that are cool enough for a fire, but not too cold. Windows open and curtains blowing. I miss lots of things.

I would definitely agree about missing blue skies the most. I was just musing about this a little while back. The light is so different this time of year – colder, grayer, etc. It’s interesting how light in different seasons colors our memories.
To that end, I’m having some problems trying to wrap my head around a snowstorm that’s supposed to be headed our way. It’s so sunny outside it’s hard to imagine that 4-6″ of snow is supposed to be a few hours from here.

Oooh I feel much better now.
I miss being able to sit out on the patio whilst it’s still warm but dark and watching the bats flying around the garden.
Thanks for your visit over at my place :)

The things I miss most about summer would have to be the sound of all the birds singing and falling a sleep to the sound of rain on the roof.

I miss the sound of all the life around me, both in the land and in the people I see during the day. In the winter people seem more huddled inside themselves, the way we huddle indoors. And the streets are filled with people rushing to their destinations to get out of the cold as fast as possible (myself included!) And the earth seems so dead somehow, as if it is a shell of itself.
I’d also have to add that I miss the feeling of warm sunshine on my face. Even the sunny days in the winter don’t have that enveloping feeling and comfort of a warm day in June or July.

Kelly – I’ll come help you plant a garden at your house, I think you would like it. It’s the perfect hobby for those of us that spend a lot of time on the computer.
Mangochild – I know exactly what you mean. Mr Chiots and I walk frequently (even in winter) and we rarely see others out. In the summer we see many people out and about. I miss farmers markets too, visiting with the sellers and other like-minded folks.
Dan – the birds, I agree. I have noticed hearing more birds now that it’s starting to feel like spring on some days.
Missy – oh yes, fires on your back porch – the perfect way to enjoy a cool summer evening. I was thinking about that as we drove home from our wedding this evening.

oh wow you have no idea how much i miss the summer! yes i miss the blue skies soooo much. also i miss the green trees and grass. i miss the warm breezes that smell like summer. but mainly i miss swimming so badly! i would go outside early in the morning and get some tanning before the sun got too hot while listening to my favorite music (trance techno). then i would go swimming for hours and and sit on the swing daydreaming in the shade listening to music before going swimming some more. there were a lot of dragonflies last summer so i loved to watch them fly around, now i love dragonflies i miss them :( i also miss the beautifu evening sunsets and the rare sunshower. actually i even miss the rain a bit too. i love the rain in the summer as long as it doesnt stay gloomy too long. well this was long winded i just had to get it out….winter is really getting to me i guess lol. i do think i have SAD.
