A Trip to Stan Hywet in Akron, OH
Last Tuesday my mom and I went to Stan Hywet to see their peonies in bloom. If you were reading my blog last fall you’ll remember that I got my mom a membership to Stan Hywet for a gift. So far this spring we’ve gone twice, this past week was really nice. They have tons of peonies of all shapes colors and sizes. Unfortunately we had a big thunderstorm the night before so they were a little wet & droopy, but they still looked Fabulous! It happened to be super cold that day (in the 50’s), and kind of dark & dreary, but it was still beautiful!
So for those of you who love peonies and lovely gardens, here’s some eye candy for you. It was very difficult narrowing down the photos, I took so many while there. But here are the best 32 photos for you to enjoy. (the little icon in the top left-hand corner will allow you to see the photos in full screen if you’d like to see them bigger)

I think its beautiful. So the membership allows the holder to visit a certain number of times? Your picture of the close-up of the red peony is my fav.

You’re allowed to go as often as wanted to free with a membership. You can also do self-guided house tours for free and you get discounts to special events that they have.

I love SH. we have a home in medina that we no longer live in – and during the summer when we come back to check on things – we typically take a trip to the Stan Hywet gardens and the botanical gardens in cleveland. I just cannot get enough!!!
thanks for the pictures!

Wow what a beautiful garden. You sure took some great pics. Those peonies look fantastic. Susy, maybe you should visit Huntington Library in San Marino, California one of these days. They have beautiful gardens there and apparently their famous Corpse Flower is about to bloom. I was there 2 weeks ago and it was not blooming :(

I seriously need to go to Stan Hywet sometime soon. I only live about 10 minutes away. For several years I lived about 1/2 block from there and always said that I needed to go see it, but I never did. I went a few times when I was little, but haven’t been there in years. My daughter would love all the flowers.

It really is lovely. I got my mom a membership because she likes it so much. We’ve gone twice this spring, we’ll probably be going in a few weeks again.

such a great place. i remember going there as a kid, and walking below the grape arbor that was 20 feet long. and the asian secret gardens. and the christmas tour was soo cool – but that was inside. i’ve heard they have have completely redone the grounds.
