A New Favorite: Lamb’s Ears
I have a new favorite plant – Lamb’s Ears. I bought this plant last year and put it in the front flowerbed. I love the color it adds and the texture as well. It’s so intriguing the way it grows so tall to bloom.
The gray color really brightens up the front of the garden bed it’s in. It also helps tie in the gray color from the cabbage that’s in another part of the flowerbed. I liked it so much I bought 3 more plants this spring.
What plants do you like to color & texture to the garden?

The plant makes me want to reach out and touch it. Interestingly, I love the texture of rosemary and thyme.

You won’t need to buy any more ever again! They spread very fast. By next year your 3 could turn into 15 or more if you choose to divide it. I like the silver foliage and it has a great texture. Artemisias are one of my favorites right now for silver color and texture. ‘Silver Mound’ artemisia just invites petting. Persian shield is a cool plant for color too.

Oh, I have a ‘Silver Mound’ and it’s so lovely, so soft and fluffy.

Oh, I love lamb’s ears…the color of the leaves, but the contrast of colors when they bloom is even better. Very therapeutic to the touch, too! It’s so hard to answer your question today, for color and texture, I can’t just pick one flower. However, for foliage, I love the contrast of colors when you pair chartreuse leaves next to a deep maroon leaf.

We discovered a plant a few years ago that has become one of my favorites. It’s called Dianella, the foliage looks like a daylily and the flowers are fairly insignificant little purple things…but the seed pods (?) that come after look like brilliant purple chinese lanterns. They are about the size of a marble (only oval) and iridescent and they never fail to inspire comments and questions. I’ll have to post a photo on my blog.
