Stretching their Wings
It’s been raining a lot here lately and our poor bees get a little restless when they can’t leave the hive. When we have a warm sunny day we see them all over the gardens. It’s kind of funny because we usually don’t see our bees in the garden, I see a lot of solitary bees, and on occasion a honey bee. But now that it’s getting colder I’ve seen a lot of our bees in the gardens.
I especially see them around water sources getting drinks. They love Lucy’s bowl in the front lawn. I put some leaves in it so they don’t drown.
If you don’t have water sources for beneficial insects, consider added a small basin filled with sand or straw to you garden. Make sure you replace the water frequently so as not to breed mosquitos. You’ll be rewarded with lots of beneficials flitting around your gardens.
Have you noticed more bees as fall is coming or fewer?

Love the shot of your bees! This weather has been awful. I swear its been cloudy here for a week! The girls were hopping here on Friday. We have a water bowl in the orchard for them that they hit pretty hard. They also love the neighbors koi pond.

How sweet of you to put leaves in Lucy’s dish for the bees! You must have wonderful honey from your lovely garden. The bees around here seem to be less in number than high summer, but there are still many, for there are still many flowers blooming, asters, wild ageratum, various salvias and the mums will begin shortly. After that, things will be much quieter. :-)

I love your bee pics. I hope one day to have my own hive too. You asked in a other post (about canning) to keep an eye out for a particular style of jar. I did not find any used jars, but this site sells them new for a decent price. Hope this helps you.

Beautiful bees. Lovely post. We have less bees now that the lavender is gone, but I look forward to next year. :)
