Quote of the Day: Thorton Wilder
“We can only be said to be alive
in those moments when our hearts
are conscious of our treasures.”
-Thorton Wilder
This time of the year I really enjoy the sunsets. Since all the leaves are off the trees I’m able to see and enjoy them.
What moments this time of year make you conscious of your treasures?

I had a moment just last night, actually (or rather, very early this morning), when I was lying awake in bed considering a description I read recently of the wattle and mud cottages common in England in the middle ages. I was thinking, in my half-awake state, that while my house is cold, at least I don’t have the wind blowing chinking and rain into my bed.
My standards are pretty low, obviously.

I’m equally thankful for a warm home, mine’s not as cold as yours. No ice on the walls, but we do get it on the windows.

Smells. I can’t put my finger on a particular one but it seems smells are so much more potent in the cool air. I can say that pumpkin spice flavors are so appealing; especially in the evenings.

I was just telling Mr Chiots the other night how I like the smells of autumn. There’s just something about the crisp air and those spicy autumn smells – MMMMMMM.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos that speak to the quote by Wilder. Sunsets and sunrises always, Indian Summer days, like last Sunday, the laughter of a certain little boy, and the spicy fragrance of cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg make me fully aware of the gifts and treasures that are there for the taking.

I treasure the glory I get living in a place where the seasons change so beautifully. I treasure the beautiful leaves on the ground I saw on my walk to work that reminded me of a red plush carpet. The scurrying anmals gathering food before winter. The mountains contrast I treasure that I am able to walk to work, peaceful, slow and in the beauty of nature.

I wish I lived somewhere where I could walk to the grocery and other places I needed to go. I do walk to work (well, I work from home:).
I could walk in to the Post Office and library, but it would take a few hours.
