Busy Busy Busy

December 19th, 2009

It’s been a busy week around here. Since we’re celebrating Christmas tomorrow with my family I have to make sure all of my gifts for our “homemade Christmas” are finished. I finished a lot of them last week, except for my little nephew’s gift. He requested a superhero cape this year for Christmas. Since I’m the crafty aunt, my sister asked if I’d be willing to make one for him. I made one on Thursday (photos to come on Monday, I don’t want to give it away), I think it’s the best handmade gift I’ve ever made.

The kitchen is a flurry of activity with several batches of dinner rolls and some sourdough bread being made.

I also made some lemon marmalade with some of those Meyer Lemons I have. I’ll be giving some of this away as gifts, of course some will stay here for us to enjoy on toast (and maybe those dinner rolls on Sunday).

Mr Chiots learned to knit just for our gift to our nieces. He spent yesterday afternoon finishing up his contribution to the gift. They’re going to be thrilled that he actually made these for them! I had to take some photos so they’d believe it. (I’ll share those next week as well, can’t give away the gifts)

I wrapped up the last of the gifts last night and we’re all ready for our family holiday. It’s nice to be finished so early, I’ll be able to relax next week. All I have on my Christmas to-do list is to make caramel corn for the friendly library ladies and the post office workers. Oh yeah – and our awesome UPS man.

Are you all finished with holiday shopping, gift making, cooking, or are you going to be busy, busy, busy this coming week?

I keep forgetting it’s almost Christmas. Probably because I had a grand total of two gifts to get, since everyone else just gets my food, which therefore only requires a trip to the cellar.

    Beats the mall any day.

Oh yes, reading blogs soaks up so much time – it’s a good thing I don’t have cable :)

Hope you have a wonderful Christmas meal!

Great holiday shaping up for you and your family! I am looking forward to seeing the cape and the knitting project.

I am substantially done with the holiday tasks with the exception that I need to do Cards and gifts for my staff at work and I need to wrap my sister’s gift yet. I am going to be taking care of all of that this weekend, with delivery of the staff gifts on Monday. Shifting gears over to doing a little holiday cookie baking and menu planning now. Going to spend a little time with my sister and her husband on Christmas eve day – but the rest of the holiday will be a quiet one within our own little family nucleus.

Love small family celebrations. Early on Mr Chiots and I decided that Christmas day was going to be for just our family (which is just me & him since we don’t have kids – of course the pets join in). We love our peaceful Christmas days, so relaxing.

Your Husband knits?!?!? Very impressive (mine can put up walls and makes coffee every morning so I’m not complaining, just impressed:)

We (parents) are not buying any gifts this year tho our kids are giving to each other. Like kristin, our gift-giving will be selected from the pantry….lots of jams, relishes, and syrups to pick from. I may add a loaf of home-made bread and toffee as well. First time in years we’re planning on relaxing the week before Christmas!

Oh yes, Mr Chiots is willing to try anything. He’s great at building things, making coffee, geeky tech stuff and other endeavors. He loves trying new things, so when I started knitting him a scarf he thought he’d give it a go. Our nieces will be so impressed!

      Great idea not buying gifts.

    We’re celebrating our Christmas tonight!

I actually taught my boyfriend to knit, and he absolutely loves it. Pretty soon he’s going to try his hand at crocheting, and he already enjoys sewing (we made a quilt this week to give to his god parents).

I think crocheting is almost easier than knitting. I like the simplicity of it, with only one small hook. I haven’t taught Mr Chiots to sew yet, he’s happy to let me man that machine. It’s great for men to know how to do things like sewing and it’s great for women to know how to build things.
