Books, Books, Books and more Books
I read a lot. I don’t buy books, or I’d be penniless, I get them from the library. If I love the book I often buy it so I can read it again and again. This is the stack I’m reading currently, with a few others scattered about the house in my various reading points.
This time of year I’m pretty busy, so I don’t get as many books read as I would like. I find myself reading during any spare bit of time I can find; over breakfast, lunch and dinner, at night before going to sleep, for an afternoon break, in the evening. I still won’t get all the books read that I want to read, but that’s OK.
I generally have a notebook handy while reading so I can jot down quotes, ideas, plant recommendations, etc. Right now the book I’m thoroughly enjoying is The Winter Harvest Handbook: Year Round Vegetable Production Using Deep Organic Techniques and Unheated Greenhouses. More about it specifically tomorrow.
Do you like to read? Do you use your local library?

I love to read – if I can’t for whatever reason (work schedule, etc) I go insane. In fact, the times I feel most like *me* is when I’m just curled up on a particular sofa in my family room reading with the entire world blocked out.
Library user here, I don’t think I’ve really ever purchased books. My mother started the library thing when I was a very small child, and it just seems the norm to get reading material that way. If I love a book, I’ll just take it out of the library when the urge strikes. If I think of/hear of a title during the week, its a simple matter to reserve it online so it is waiting for me when I stop by on the weekend. Maybe I’ll have to wait a week or so until I get it (if it is checked out by someone else) but I’m okay with that. It just works to go to the library once a week with a stack of books to return and a new one to pick up.
The library concept is just so amazing and wonderful to me, I want to support it as much as I can.

LOVE to read. I visit my library all of the time, and always take advantage of inter-library loan. We have a pretty big selection here, and it’s very nice. One of the library has a special “environmental” section, which itself is the size of a typical library here. It has books on every category that are related to environmental topics— gardening, green home building, cleaning, cooking, etc.

Love to read! Love it so much I am the Children’s Librarian/Assistant Director of our public library. Glad to hear you use your library regularly, it is the best way to be able to afford to read as much as we want to. I always have more than one book that I am reading. My current pile is way to tall for this busy time of year.
I also buy quite a few books in a year, but they are mostly informational books that I want to reference later. I have a few books that I have read again and again, but most books are a one time read and for that the library is best.
Speaking of the library, I best be off to work.

I love to read and I love to utilize my local library! I didn’t always. If I was interested in a book I’d buy it…and often regret it! So I finally got smart and began borrowing books from the library…then, like you, if I like it and will use it a lot, I buy it.
What I really love is that I can go to my library online, put a book on hold, get an email when it’s arrived, and go pick it up. Done! Love it!
I have to say, too…it makes me happy knowing I’m saving so much money!

I really enjoy reading, though I tend to go through phases where I read quite a bit and others when I don’t read all that much. I typically get my books from the library for much the same reason as you. I’d never have enough money to buy all the books that I’d like to read. As an added bonus…once I’m done reading the book I don’t have to try and figure out where to store it!

I agree – no need to find storage – a huge plus in small house.

I am a huge fan of library – really one of humankind’s best inventions. The fact that so much knowledge is there for free for anybody who wants, it gives me great hope for all of us. I just finished reading The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, which is about the amazing accomplishment of a young man without a formal education who simply took himself to the library.

we are big library users! I just wish I had more time to read more books. We just put that book, Winter harvest handbook, on our must read list. Can’t wait to hear what you have to say about it.

The public library is my first choice to get reading material. It’s so convenient to check out the titles on-line … and even have the book moved from another lending library to my own. I buy books occasionally … opting first for used via Amazon.

I just re-discovered my local library this past year, and have been checking out books every week or so from them! I love the fact that I can go online to the library’s site and place holds on books online, then just go and pick them up, makes life a little simpler :)

Love the on-line library searching. Whenever I read about a book that sounds interesting I hop on there and add it to my list or request it.

Love to read. Always have. One of my escapisms. We go to the library every other week. They have the best book sales and offer special programs like Celtic music played by local bands and local artists displaying their pieces, quilters etc….There are so many opportunities…..so many worlds available to be found in the library. I was a librarian for a while…. Which proved oftentimes problematic when you have first dibs on new books(Need I say more……)
If I love the book I buy it usually off Amazon or Alibris.
An idea I found on the internet some time ago for those of us who have too many books and have little available space for book shelves~attach guttering to your wall and place books in that….just a thought..
