It Feels Good to be Home

October 13th, 2010

Mr Chiots and I just arrived home yesterday from our New England vacation, so I’m beat! We didn’t have time to do everything we wanted to do (like visiting Blackrock and Bufala di Vermont for some water buffalo yogurt, and so many more). So we’ll have to plan another trip.

We managed to cram a lot of fun times into our 9 day trip, we did everything from hiking around Walden Pond to watching people race in giant pumpkins in the ocean.

We spent our time camping at several beautiful campgrounds, one on the ocean in Maine was fabulous. It was perfect camping weather, days in the 50’s nights in the 40’s. One night got down into the low 30’s. It’s a good thing we had nice warm wool blankets to keep us toasty warm!

We got to visit a few places I’ve been wanting to see for quite a while, like Comstock, Ferre & Co and Eliot Colman’s Four Season Farm, along with The Good Life Center.

We enjoyed stopping at beautiful little farms and chatting with the farmers. We also made the most of the local food from lobster and fried clams to carrots and cider.

It wasn’t all great times though, we got in an accident – OH NO! But we were lucky that no one was hurt and the car was drivable so we could make it home. So we didn’t let it dampen our spirits.

I have lots of great things to tell you about and some great goodies to give away from some of the people I met. We ended up coming home a day early because we have a busy rest of the week (and we have to get the car fixed). But I’d rather have a day less of vacation and a day to get things in order at home before a busy season.

Have you ever come home from vacation early?

Ahhh, home again. I, too, require a day to get myself together after a trip before diving back into real life. Of course, now that I no longer work (at an outside job, anyway), this is easier to accomplish.

P.S. That photo of the people in the pumpkins is friggen awesome.

We cut short out trip to Finland earlier this year. Our dog is old and ill and we were very uncomfortable leaving her with our neighbors for so long–although they love her. As soon as we made the decision, a weight was lifted, it was meant to be. It turns out it was just the right amount of time.

I always feel like I need a vacation after my vacations…….probably from trying to cram too much into my short timespan. Oh well, it’s always worth it, though!

When I was young (probably 7th grade), we took a family vacation to Walt Disney World. We had all worked together as a family, and planned a fun-filled week! We spent a day at every theme park, and my brother and I swam at the hotel every night! By the end of the week we were beat! We didn’t end up using our last pass and headed home early! Even for a kid that vacation was a little too packed!! We did have a 20 plus hour drive home, so I believe we caught up on our rest before we got home (well, us kids did at least!). I love to do things while on vacation, but it is also nice to relax. Either way, I too love to have a day of rest once back from vacation! Thanks for the post! Super cute pictures! I love it!

So you got to the Nearings and Four Season. One of my best friend’s farms is in between them. And you got to see the giant pumpkin race. I guess you hit the highlights of the Maine coast in October. Another trip should bring you to Mount Desert Island and further Downeast. It is now Cranberry season. and we have some beauties.

We probably drove right by your friend’s farm! Cranberries, we love them, if I had known we would have bought some to bring home.

You had too. Her’s is across from “the hand” between Good Life and Four Seasons. Her land abutts Eliot’s. Both of them purchased their land from the Nearings.

we came home early from gatlinburg when i was pregnant with luke because it was too exhausting for me to walk up and down the hill in the middle of the summer! we were bummed to leave early, but got to move up the ultrasound to find out that he was a boy:)

Sounds like a wonderful trip jam-packed with goodness (except for the accident ): ) I’ve come home from a vacation a day or two early, and found it quite liberating!

ha ha,,, i bet those pumpkin “boat” races were fun to watch!
I would love to go camping in the Fall. I don’t know that it will ever happen for us until the kids are on their own. Right now school, football, and 4-H take up our time. But I love it!
