A Great Excuse for Good Food
I’m not a football fan, I grew up in South America so soccer is more my speed. Every year though we get together with friends for a super bowl party. It’s not so much about the football but about the food. I always enjoy having an excuse to make a bunch of delicious things.
I spent the day yesterday baking away. I make two batches of kaiser rolls, one whole grain, one white. I made some enriched dough to wrap around little smokies (one of Mr Chiot’s favorite Super Bowl snacks). Some whole grain olive oil crackers were also pulled out of the oven, they were quite tasty (I’ll share the recipe later).
I also used some of those lovely Meyer lemons to make a lemon pound cake. Ina Garten’s recipes never let me down, I find then to always turn out beautifully.
The cake was fabulous of course, not too sweet, perfectly tart and deliciously lemony. I took lots of photos and will share the recipe with you later this week.
Do you attend a Super Bowl Party? What kinds of food do you eat?

Since I don’t watch television, I don’t watch the Super Bowl. But I would sacrifice my entertainment standards for any of that glorious food you made!

No party for me. I’m too sick. :-( At least my Packers won! Your rolls look beautiful! I love bread!

Every year a few of my retired co workers use the Super Bowl as an excuse to get together and swap lies about what we have been doing during the past year. Our standard food is always a big pot of chili and a vast array of chips and someone usually brings a vegie or fruit tray. Our get together is not so much about the food but about seeing each other again.
Have a great baking day. Mr. Chiots is one lucky guy.

A big pot of chili and cornbread… my staples for superbowl. It just is an excuse really to make these items. Now if the Browns where in the superbowl, then I would get fancy and actually care about the game, more than the food!

Your kaiser rolls look amazing! I too have made Ina Garten’s lemon pound cake and thought it was delicious. Because of your recent baking posts, I think I’m going to bake some bread tomorrow morning!

My husband and I have started a silly, but fun tradition of Gilmore Bowl on Super Bowl Sunday. Instead of watching the game (neither of us are big sports people) we have a Gilmore Girls marathon. We also both typically cook everything from scratch, but not for Gilmore Bowl. It’s a day filled with cheap snacks and comfort food entertainment and we absolutely love it!

Oh my goodness! That lemon pound cake looks delicious! Your meyer lemon post a few days ago has inspired me to order my own lemon and lime trees.

No party, so no food. But if I went to a party, it would mostly be about food. Your party food looks wonderful. Emily
