Quote of the Day: Wesley Bates

February 20th, 2011

There’s no need for a piece of sculpture
in a home that has a cat.
~Wesley Bates

We love all of our cats, they provide so much entertainment and give us lots of laughs.

Even Miss Mama and Little Softie the garage cats bring us lots of joy. We took Little Softie in to get spayed this past week, she seems to be going well. Hopefully she’ll live a long happy life in the Chiot’s Run garage.

I’m definitely a cat person, I love cats, always have. We almost always had cats in the house while I was growing up and Mr Chiots and I have had pet cats for most of our married lives. We’ll probably always have them. I’m not as much of a dog person as I am a cat person though, if I had to choose one I’d choose cats (shhhh, don’t tell the resident Chiots, the namesake of the garden).

Are you a cat or a dog person?

That’s Dexter and he looks just like an old gray & white cat I had in high school. He showed up on our doorstep a few years ago and brought much entertainment value as he’s a chatterbox.

I’m mostly a cat person but I love our dog’s as well. We have 23 cats but they’re all outside and barn cats since my Mom is allergic to them and we have some stray cats that come to our farm as well.

I don’t know if I am more of a cat person or a dog person. Growing up I had the most terrible cat. She was mean from the day we brought her home, and hated to be held or cuddled. She was my cat from age six until just this past year, when she died on her 20th birthday. She is the reason for my skepticism towards cats.
Last winter we found several kittens along the side of a country road and after bringing them home (intending to find families for them ALL) we decided to keep one. He is far more amusing, friendly and sweet than my old cat ever was and so he’s definitely winning me over slowly but surely.
I guess I’m 50/50 for now. Our dogs are very well behaved and low maintenance, and (as herding breeds) they help around the farm a lot rounding up rogue ducks and scaring off coyotes. They’re a practical sort of pet. At the same time, since bringing the new cat home we’ve seen only one mouse in the house and we were battling them full force before.

We are on team cat- 1 dog, 7 cats. 6 of the 7 are from a stray momma kitty that delivered last spring- and yes they are all spayed/neutered. We love watching them play and sleep together- our also sleep in the garage -with the exception of 2 that are house cats.

No cats. No dogs. Just rabbits, squirrels, racoons, o’posum, and whatever else wants to wander through my yard and stop at the garden buffet.

    Have a great dog/cat day.

Dogs, all the way. I really hate having cats in the house. Outside cats are okay, but inside? Nothing but a pain and a mess with the litter box.

Or maybe that’s just our cats.

I’m definitely a dog person and right now I have 2. I don’t think a house is a home without at least one dog. I did, however, have a cat for 16 years. He was a good old boy though not much of a lap cat.

…Oh don’t make me choose! I am both; simply split down the middle – both a dog person and a cat person. Well, actually you could simply round me off as an animal lover. Period. :o)

    …There. :o)

Cat all the way. My family had cats long before they had us. I always get my cat (s) from the local shelter or off the streets. Never had a dog and for some reason I don’t want one. I don’t know why. Lets face it whatever you love they will make you happy and for sure laugh.

At the moment we dont have a house cat, just 2 farm cats outside Boudica & Hellboy…
Dog numbers are down to 2 GSD’s one is just 14mths old the other 13.5yrs old….. I know bit of an age gap!
Think i maybe just edge towards canines more but wouldn’t want to be without the kittycats.

We’re definitely cat people. We picked up 2 kitten brothers and a young female last year from the local humane society. I’ve never had sibling cats before and they’re *very* close – constantly together sleeping, playing, fighting, even grooming each other!

Our orange and all gray cats are siblings, they are the same way – always snuggling, sleeping together and cleaning each other – so cute! It’s very rare that they snuggle with Dexter (the gray & white one). Samson (the orange one) will occasionally snuggle with him, but (the all gray one) refuses to. Soafie

I have to agree with TJ, don’t make me choose. We have 14 cats and 3 dogs. We recently added another goat to our three when the mule farm behind us upped and packed and left one night! (Probably foreclosure.) They snuck their one goat into my goat pen. We are keeping her as it’s not her fault. Animals add so much to our lives.

    Cats,
I work with a rescue group as a ICU nurse for abused or very severly injured cats. I do have a dog, she just resides with the cat herd and tries to fit in.
My cats, as I tell them live at Club Med. believe me,
Love your photos of your clan. Looks like my house.
    Take care

Definitely a cat person! We have 7 indoor kitties and they are spoiled rotten. We live in a condo, so cannot have dogs or we would have one of those too. Cats are a lot less work though! Your kitties are all adorable and very happy looking. You can tell they are spoiled too!

Cat people. We just got two of the cutest kittens from a foster “parent” connected with the SPCA. One is a foundling that was put with a momma and her babies that were trapped and taken to the SPCA. They are better entertainment than tv. Although theses days that’s not hard to accomplish.

I have 4 German Shepherds, 1 Maine Coon cat and 1 Maine Coon x. I love my cats however this is the way I put it. If the house was on fire and I could save my dogs or my cats, the cats need to be looking for a way out or safe haven. That may sound harsh but I know it is the truth,

I’m a dog person, but living in the city in an apartment doesn’t leave much room for a dog, so I’ve considered cats. Too much attitude for me I think. I’m all about unconditional love and wagging tails.

Sounds like you need an orange male cat, they have a reputation for being lover cats, always wanting to sit in laps and very friendly. Our Samson is no exception to that rule, he’s always wanting to sit in your lap and running to greet us when we come home, not aloof in the least bit. He’s more like a dog than a cat.

I’m an equal opportunity animal lover, and we’ve got several species – fish, cats, a dog, chickens, cattle. I adore them all.

But…but. Cats are so much easier than dogs…not as needy, full of entertainment, very loving (sometimes) and very clear when they’re not wanting love. Our male cat, Thomas (Tom, Tommy, Tombo, Tom Bodette, TomTom), a snowy white angora-looking boy, has more personality than any cat I’ve ever known. He makes me laugh every day and is so, so loving. He prefers me to hold him like a baby, while he likes to hang over my DH’s shoulder best. Life would not be the same without him. :)

I think I’m both…I love my dog Seiko…yes the watchdog…he keeps me walking and I love my cats, Miss Daisy and Dagwood, litter mates, now 4 years old. Miss Daisy is a lap cat and Dagwood only cuddles at night, he sleeps between my husband and I. Seiko was a good sport when his domain was taken over my cats but every once in a while he lets out a “leave me alone” yelp. He can only take so much “rubbing up against my nose when I’m sleeping”….

Cat – all the way. We have three. I laughed out load when you said Dana needed an orange male cat because they are lovers. oh my gosh our orange male is completely odd man out there. Mean and meaner as the day is long. Temper from 3wks old when we rescued him. He is 13yo now and becoming less territorial, but in his day he would tree raccoons (or just plain fight with them to the death). So glad that is out of his system. He loves my husband, but still has a mean streak in him there too. The other two girls we have are siblings and they almost can’t be on the same bed together – stare downs and hissing lead to #2 in that pecking order leaving. So I guess my lot breaks the mold – orange males being lovers – Ah NO! and siblings sticking together – ah NO again! but I wouldn’t trade them in for anything different than who they are. Emily

You KNOW what I’m going to say, don’t you? ;-) CAT, CAT, CAT, CAT, CAT, CAT, CAT, CAT, and CAT! Love your kitties! Several look so much like ours. Don’t you love it when they lay stretched out with their feet out behind them like that? I always say they are doing a dog impression when they do that. LOL.
