Introducing…….Me

April 19th, 2011

On Monday Mr Chiots and I filmed our first video for the Your Day Blog. We put together a blooper reel of all the funny things that happened while we were filming. Mr Chiots and I are a jovial bunch, laughter being the most common sound ringing through the halls and gardens at Chiot’s Run. We have a good time no matter what we’re doing, this video demonstrates what our lives are like – always a barrel of laughs! For all of you who have been reading for years and for those who just stumbled on this blog, here’s the face and voice behind Chiot’s Run.

I’m always the one behind the camera, rarely showing my face in front of the lens (you may have noticed). There’s a reason for that, as an introvert it’s not my favorite thing to do. I dislike having my photo taken and I dislike even more being on video, so it’s kind of funny that I do both those things for a living. When Ethel Gloves hired me to blog for them, they also wanted me to make videos for them. *YIKES* I thought to myself – I must get over my aversion of being in front of the camera! I must admit – it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Head on over to the Your Day Blog at Ethel and watch the final video.

Are you averted to being in front of the camera?

That was cute! Thanks for the afternoon giggle. Yes, I’m camera-shy, and so is my hubby, which is why 99% of my photos feature our critters or our view. I was just trying to capture my honey stoking the (hubby-made, well-controlled/contained ) brush fire in our backyard for an upcoming blog post, and since it was dusk and I suck at photography, my attempt at using the “foliage” setting (which renders colors true) resulted in a blur of my darling instead of him in still-life. Fail.

Great first video! Better you than me–I hate being in front of the camera, too!

I don’t mind other people taking my picture but I’m usually behind the camera though.

I love this! And it was fun to hear your voice :-) I’m sure I’ll “hear” you now when I’m reading your posts!

I also would much rather be behind the camera, especially with video, so I completely understand. In February, though I helped host a small group on a trip to Haiti through work, and we needed to get some video clips to send back home. Fortunately, we had an amazing communications staff person along who knew how to coach me so that I would know what to say! So it really wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be :-)

Great videos. Thanks for posting both of them. Love the gloves too!

I also do not like being in front of a camera – still or video – makes no difference. As a food stylist I work with a photographer that is constantly trying to get me to do videos of recipes to post on a blog or sell to a store. Ugh. I so wish I was a different personality and would jump at that opportunity. You did great. It was nice to see you!

You did a great job with the video. I’m puzzled that you dislike being on camera; you are professional and come across as likable and real. Don’t worry about it any more!

So nice to finally see what you look like, don’t know why you are so shy, you are super cute (saying that in a very non-stalkerish type of way!!). :)

Hate seeing an image of myself. It doesn’t match what is in my mind. Feel free to use my excuse anytime:
“Please don’t take a picture of me. It steals my soul.”
    It works!

It’s great to love what you do for a living! The Ethel Glove video is really well done. I think that you are a natural in front of the camera.

Somehow photos of me always kind of surprise me, like “Oh, is THAT what I really look like?”

I don’t spend a lot of time in front of the mirror, obviously.

I haven’t been videotaped (is it still called “taped”? probably not) in years.

I don’t spend much time in front of the mirror either – every now and then I say – HM – maybe I should check and make sure I don’t have chocolate on my face before I got outside. I can go days without looking in the mirror!

Blast! I’m at work! I cannot view this video at this time! I must go home and watch it – from reading the comments on it so far I must!
But I agree with the introvert thing… I dislike being recorded in either video or photo also… there’s a lot of photos of my hands holding things I grew though! Hehe.
[Although, you have shown pictures of you through your niece’s and nephew’s posts! So we’ve seen your face before… hehe! ♥]

    Haha! That was fun!

I can’t say I’ve had many opportunities to be in front of a film camera (unless you count my childhood home movies). I think I would be kind of awkward at first…it’s probably something you have to get used to.

It was nice to finally see you “in person”! How cool that you get to make videos like that as part of your job :)

I’m jealous of that greenhouse-like building! I’m guessing it’s the one in your mom’s garden pics on the most recent post?

P.S. I wanted to let you know that the first few books under “what I’m reading” have broken links.

Yes it is the one in the background of the other image. It’s a Sun Shed that my mom purchased in memory of my grandma (who also enjoyed gardening). I wrote about the building process last fall when she got it.

Thanks for letting me know about the broken links, I’ll check those out.

Hahahaha – thank you so much for sharing these! I can’t stand watching myself on video either. The sound of one’s own voice is just too horrendous. I really got a kick out of seeing you ‘in the flesh and voice’ though. As an avid reader, i guess i usually read your words in my own voice. It’s neat to hear them in your voice.
