The Flower I’ve Been Waiting For
I have been patiently waiting and watching for this flower since I started the seed last summer. It was supposed to bloom last summer but didn’t. I thought it would bloom earlier this spring and was beginning to wonder if it every was going to bloom. I never did the see the buds emerge, I noticed them last night and they were blooming this morning.
This is the beautiful pink bloom of the ‘Tarpan’ Strawberry. I purchased a packet of 15 seeds from Johnny’s last spring. Only 3 or 4 of the seeds germinated and grew into plants. That doesn’t matter too much because those plants are producing runners like crazy. Each mother plant has produced 3 to 5 daughter plants and they’re still producing runners.
I need to decide where I’m going to be putting these. Maybe a few of those yellow strawberries will be removed in the front flowerbed to make way for these beauties. These are ever bearing strawberries and will produce strawberries from mid-summer to frost. That’s perfect since my June-bearing strawberries just quit producing for the year.
These really are quite different than other strawberry blooms I’ve seen. I’m interested to see what the berries taste like.
Have you ever waited patiently for something to bloom? How long did you wait?

I would like to plant strawberries at some point. I assumed I would have to buy transplants, but I guess you can start them from seed. I will look this variety up. Also want a row of raspberry bushes:)

That is a pretty flower, and to get fruit from it is a nice bonus. This is the third summer for my bear’s breeches. They are a nice size this year, but I am still waiting for a bloom. I saw one on a recent garden tour, and it is worth waiting for.

So pretty, they look like little miniature roses! I want to plant some of these- just need to find a place. I’m starting to run out of sunny spots!

Although it’s not a flower, I bought a maidenhair fern several years ago .It it just seemed to sit there every year not growing and not dying either. It was so small I had a hard time locating it every spring. Now it’s quite large and I look forward to it every year. It’s one of those plants I will take with me if we move.

…I really don’t wait for something to bloom. I pretty much plant it, nurture it and hope for the best… I’m just happy if something comes back year after year! lol… ;o)
…And btw, your soil is beautiful!

7 months it took my lavender seeds to germinate and now, 9 months since planting, they are about to bloom.

So pretty! We just put in about 75 plants, 50 Junebearing and 25 everbearing. They are going great and we are about to mulch with some straw, but wondering what kind of fertilizer you use, do you side dress, etc. Would love your feedback, seems you have the strawberries down pat. Thanks!

You’re only supposed to fertilize strawberries in fall. I usually give them a layer of compost then mulch in the fall. In very early spring I water them with a weak fish emulsion (Neptune’s Harvest) and that’s it. They produce beautifully without much effort!

These are beautiful…worth the wait I’m thinking. I hope the berries are as good as they are pretty. I wonder…since they produce so many runners…are these types that you don’t have to replace every so many years? I’m looking for a low-maintenance strawberry plant.

We’ve been crossing our fingers for months, and we’ll have to for some months more, hoping the saffron blooms for us.

I’ve always been anxiously waiting for everything to bloom..
First of the year though.. Im peering beyond the deck, hoping & praying to find crocus & my most favorite, Hellebore, Lenten Rose. Those tell me that Spring is just around the bend & my sap begins to rise. ;)

I waited 3 years for agapanthus that I grew from seed to bloom. Now I have a nice clump with 3 flower stalks so far.

I’ve never seen pink strawberry flowers before – they’re just beautiful. I once waited 3 months for a squash plant to flower. It never did, so I put it on the compost heap.
