American Gothic with a Twist

August 11th, 2011

Mr Chiots and I are huge fans of the No Agenda Show with John C. Dvorak and Adam Curry. We’ve been listening since the beginning when it was kind of a food/wine show. It’s grown into so much more than that, now they deconstruct the news and world events. It helps pass the many hours we spend in the car when we go to weddings and keeps us up on what’s going on in the world. It’s informative, crazy and highly entertaining.

Adam and the lovely Miss Micky are out on the road traveling around the country on “The Hot Pockets 2008 Tour” and they just happened to stop by Chiot’s Run for a few days. We enjoyed chatting with them over a homegrown dinner about food and politics. Miss Micky even posted a few beautiful photos of the gardens at Chiot’s Run on their Facebook page. It’s always funny to meet someone you feel like you know from listening to them often. It certainly was a pleasure having the chance to get to know Adam & Micky.

You can’t let “Crackpot” come to your house without doing something a little crazy, so I had them pose out front of the cottage for an American Gothic remake. They happily dressed up and played along.

Have you ever hosted someone at your home that you never thought you would? Any great podcasts to recommend that you enjoy?

…I’m not familiar with them but I do love their photo! :o)

…It’s called “The No Agenda Show” but then it shows Obama at the door of statues lined up to be what looks like a depression era food line? (correct me if I’m wrong.) Anyway, so there’s an agenda?

    …And “hotpockets”…*shudders*

    …Blessings :o)

I am curious about the title “Hot Pockets 2008”, I feel confident you don’t eat hot pockets and it’s not 2008, lol. Sounds interesting~!

Yes, hot pockets is kind of an inside joke to the show – no way we’d ever eat a hot pockets here at Chiot’s Run.

I certainly wouldn’t say they have “no agenda,” they’re definitely a couple of libertarians…

Kind of – I like that they’re different from most of the other leftie place I get most of my info. I like to keep things balanced & hear all viewpoints so I don’t get tunnel vision on events, news, political issues.

I haven’t got to meet any of my podcast favorites but I feel like I have through Twitter and Facebook.

I’m a HUGE fan of LOST. My favorite podcast is “The LOST Podcast with Jay and Jack” I would listen to the almost religiously after every episode. The still have their podcast going because now they are re-watching LOST and podcasting about that. Jay and Jack are a son and father team and they sound like they just have the best time.

Just from having a podcast about a TV show they’ve been able to meet the stars of LOST, been to Hawaii, made friends with Jorge Garcia (Hurly/Hugo) and his girlfriend Bethany Shady and have started their own media company.

It’s amazing what you can do with a little podcast.

Actually, No Agenda doesn’t have a political agenda in the traditional sense. John is a bit more to the left, Adam a bit more to the right, so it’s not a traditional ‘hate the other people’ political show but both of them are fairly libertarian in their distaste for authoritarian measures taken by our government to control its people (through influencing the media and rewriting laws) without their awareness that they’re being controlled, and their constitutional freedoms are being eroded ‘for their own good’. Adam Smith (Wealth of Nations) tells us that everyone already acts out of their own self-interest anyway, so we as individuals in an individualistic society don’t like the government intruding into our life choices because we can make them just fine ourselves. I think that it’s time for a libertarian revolution in this country through lawful means (it’s not productive to go out and get arrested or have the cops come knocking on your door because you aroused their interest). I think it looks like this: Kids, go wake up your parents (preferably by hitting them in the mouth), and tell them what authoritarian government is doing to their ability to live their lives, and then write your congressmen and tell them to get the hell out of your life.

Yep that’s him! Mr Chiots loved watching him back in the day (I actually had no idea who he was until Mr Chiots told me).
